The Dino soccer squad is working hard to gel as a team with a demanding pre-season schedule. On Tuesday the Dinos headed to Uintah and lost 6-1. Friday they hosted Union and won 3-2. The sweetest win of the weekend was the 1-0 win over Canyonview on Saturday.
Coach Clifford summed up the Uintah loss. “We played most of the game really well. Uintah is a good disciplined team that passes and shares the ball like I wish we would. But in all we stayed with them until the final 15 minutes of the game.” He added, “Injuries and fatigue caught up with us. The Utes scored four quick goal in those final minutes of the game. They have a quality program and played their game well.”
It seemed like the Dinos learned a thing or two because in the Friday game against Union, the team was unselfish in their play and it showed. With blustery bone chilling winds to contend with, the Dinos took the field against the Cougars.
Union put up the first point, but seconds later Jose Munoz kicked in a goal for Carbon from midfield to tie it right back up. The Dinos scored again on a corner kick and led 2-1 at the break.
Union finally tied it up in the third, but the Dinos controlled the ball most of the half and scored to regain the lead and secure the win. Besides Munoz, Austin Dalton and Beau Morley each sent one through the net for a Carbon score.

Under slightly warmer conditions, the Dinos hosted Canyonview on Saturday. Both teams played good defenses and neither team really controlled the play in the first half. It was tied at zero going into the second period of play.
The Dinos buckled down and took charge. Most of the action took place in front of the Falcons goal with the Dinos taking 18 shots on goal to six from Canyonview. Even then the game stood at an impasse until late in the game with Munoz getting a penalty kick and he booted in a perfect crossing shot to the far side of the net.
Jake Malone made some great saves and he was assisted by deflection by Brandon Gagnon that kept the Falcons from making it a tie. The minutes ticked away as Carbon found a way to keep them from scoring and Malone got his second shutout of the season.
“We out played them in the second half and earned the win,” Clifford remarked at the end of the game. “Nothing much else to say except we played as a team and out hustled them in every way in the second half.”
Carbon will travel to Grantsville this week for their only game. Region play will start on April 4 with a game at Delta.
