In August 2007, New Heights Clubhouse received funding from United Way of Southeastern Utah for drivers education classes for members and funding for a covered cargo trailer.
New Heights Clubhouse, located at 77 South 600 East in Price, is a psycho-social rehabilitation program that serves individuals diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI). New Heights offers support for individuals living with the effects of mental illness and serves individuals residing in Carbon and Emery counties. Through participation at clubhouse, members are given the opportunities to rejoin the worlds of friendships, family, important work, employment and education. New Heights is a restorative environment for people who have had their lives drastically disrupted and need the support of others who believe that recovery from mental illness is possible.
At New Heights, each member is given the message that he or she is welcome, wanted, needed and expected each day. The message that each member’s involvement is an important contribution to the community is a message that is communicated throughout the clubhouse day.
The daily work at New Heights requires the participation of the members. The design of the clubhouse engages members in every aspect of its operation, and there is always much more work than can be accomplished by the few staff. The skills, talents, and creative ideas and efforts of each member are needed and encouraged each day. Participation is voluntary but each member is always invited to participate in work which includes clerical duties, reception, food service, transportation, outreach, maintenance, financial services and managing the employment and education programs. Through these work experiences, members begin to regain a sense of self-worth, self-confidence, self-esteem and self-respect.
New Heights Clubhouse is built upon the belief that every member can sufficiently recover from the effects of mental illness to lead a personally satisfying life. It is a community of people who are dedicated to one another’s success – no mater how long it takes or how difficult it is. We believe in the potential for productive contributions from everyone, even the member struggling with the most severe effects of mental illness. It is also strongly believed that normalized social and recreational opportunities are an important part of a person’s path to recovery.

We would like to thank you for your donations of the cargo trailer and the money for driver’s education. We really appreciate it very much. It will help us achieve the goals to have more members participate in activities, such as camping, fishing, and educational seminars. The driver’s education classes will help the members free up the staff for such things as transportation to doctors and shopping. This will give the staff more time to spend with members working side-by-side during the work-order-day.

To the United way Bard of Directors: I would like to say thank you for the opportunity you have provided for us to receive this grant money. The grant money will be used to provide opportunities in the community for the members to reintegrate ourselves back out into normal everyday lives. The use of the cargo trailer will allow us to have more members attend activities and also to allow us to have more go to the educational seminars that will always to find ways to recover, the money for the driver’s education class that will free up the generalists to allow them to spend more time on the work order day.
