By a vote of 81 to 12 United States Senate passed the Water Resources Development Act.
Already passed by the house, this legislation allows congressional authorization for important water projects throughout the nation, largely effecting drought riddled rural Utah.
“Much of Utah is in a persistent state of drought,” said Utah Senator Orrin Hatch, who was a major contributor to the bills passage. “So we need all the assistance with water we can get. Projects like this are essential to rural areas.”
The legislation provides nearly $61 million for water projects in rural Utah with $10.8 million going toward water-related infrastructure projects in smaller rural areas including Duchesne, Iron and Uintah counties.
