Canyon Days – The coal mining camps reunion is slated Aug. 11 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Helper City Park. The potluck picnic will start at 12:30 p.m. Meat and rolls will be furnished. Free winter coats – will be distributed free of charge to men, women and children Aug. 3 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the family justice center in Price.
Carbon High volleyball tryouts – will be conducted Aug. 6 at 8 a.m. at the school.
Food handlers classes – Two-hour sessions are scheduled in Price on Aug. 29 and Sept. 25 at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the public health district in Price, located at 28 South 100 East. Immunization clinic hours – Clinics are scheduled at Southeastern Utah Health District Monday through Thursday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Free legal clinics – Utah Legal Services has scheduled free clinics the second and fourth Monday of the month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 7th District Court complex, located at 149 East 100 South in Price. Women’s cancer screening – Women 50 years of age or older may qualify for a free breast and cervical cancer exams and mammograms. For information, call the public health district at 637-3671. Women ages 40 to 49 may qualify for a low-cost exam.
Carbon County RSVP – Residents who would like to volunteer or need the assistance may contact the Price RSVP office at 637-9118 or call the East Carbon office.
Second Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation – is a non-profit group dedicated to the care of orphaned, injured or ill wildlife.The group needs adult volunteers. Call Debbie Pappas at 650-3441 for information.
CASA volunteers needed – Court appointed special advocate volunteers are men and women who want to help abused and neglected children. Residents interested in volunteering to may contact the CASA coordinator at (435) 381-5595.
Carbon Family Resource Center – Story time is Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. The free lending library open to the community includes items for children, teens, parents and grandparents. CFRC is located at Castle Valley Center, 755 N. Cedar Hills Drive, Price. Call the center for hours at 650-3830.

Carbon County Animal Shelter – AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Price library – Hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; closed Saturday, Sunday and holidays. Story time is Monday at 11 a.m. for toddlers, Tuesday at 5 p.m., Wednesday at 5 p.m. and Thursday at 1 p.m. Residents interested in English as a second language or basic literacy classes Monday and Thursday at 6 p.m. may contact Paula Lewis at the library. Carbon County Family Support and Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. The crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Residents may use the nursery for respite, doctor and mental health appointments, court appearances, medical emergencies, family crisis, A/Narcotic Anonymous meetings, divorce classes and to escape domestic violence. Parenting classes are scheduled Thursday at 1:30 p.m. The center is also collecting donations for displaced families. Furniture items will be accepted only if the center has families in need. Helper library – Hours are Monday through Thursday, noon to 6 p.m.; Friday, noon to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The library offers Internet accessible computers and will obtain books for patrons through the inter-facility loan program. For information, contact the library at 472-5601.

Veterans


Veterans employment representative – is available Monday through Friday at the department of workforce services, 475 West Price River Drive. The representative will answer questions about benefits and assist with applications, employment and veterans issues. Contact Steve Wilkinson at 636-2343.
American Legion field officer – will be at the Price workforce services center Aug. 9 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. to assist local veterans with VA benefit applications. Veterans need not be members to receive assistance, but should bring all pertinent documents and information when meeting with the service officer.
