James McKendrick hurls the javelin during an earlier meet at Carbon High. McKendrick placed ninth in Delta.

The Carbon track team traveled to Delta to compete against one of the top teams in the state on March 24. and according to Coach Jimmy Jewkes they fared pretty well.
The team is coming off its second place finish at Moab. At that tournament the guys were two points away from taking first place. Jewkes reported that the competition in Delta was a little tougher but the Dino’s came through with a great performance.
On the boys side Travis Hepworth placed first in the high jump after winning a jump off for the spot. Hepworth also placed sixth in the 300 meter hurdles. Paul Goodrich placed second in the two mile and sixth in the mile and James McKendrick placed ninth in the javelin.
For the ladies Chantel Jensen placed third in the high jump with Megan Garvin placing fifth.
Freshman Felecia Olmos made the finals in both the long jump and the 200 meter dash. “I was really impressed with her, she did very well for being the youngest competitor at the meet,” said coach Jewkes. Olmos went on to place seventh in both events.
“We didn’t have our whole team with but we had a lot of people set personal best times,” said coach Jewkes. “We used this meet to see where we stand in the region and it looks to be a very exciting year,” concluded the Carbon coach.
The track team will be traveling to North Sanpete on April 3.
