Julia Potts collides with a Tooele player as she dives down the court. Potts had eights points along with a long three in the big game.

It was hard to say if the long layoff would do the Lady Dinos good or have them a bit rusty, but it didnt take long to get the answer. Carbon downed Tooele to move on to the second round of playoff with a 55-39 victory on Saturday night.
As the game started, the Dinos struggled to get a shot to fall in. Tooele started the fun with a three. Megan Garvin answered with a three of her own. As the Buffalos edged ahead by boxing out the Dinos from getting in the paint. The Dinos responded by hitting five threes before the quarter was over to take a 15-10 lead.
Defense took over for both teams in the second, but the Dinos never gave up the lead. Handing on by four they headed to the locker room to recharge for the final push.
In the second half of play, the defense for the Dinos was stifling. But they were able to force Tooele to spread out their D so the Dinos could score with some good inside shots. Two more threes from Garvin, kept the Bear defense out of sync.

Megan Garvin gets fouled as she goes up for a shot. Garvin had 21 points and seven rebounds in the game that sent the Dinos to the state tourney.

The Bears made a small run early in the fourth, but Carbon never let up and stretched the lead to 16 to grab the win.
Megan Garvin was deadly from outside with five threes on the night. Her first three scores in the first quarter were treys. She finished with 21 points 7 rebounds and 4 steals on the night. She was named the Dino player of the game. Julia Potts and Ericka Potts each hit for eight points. Julia Potts hit one of the five threes made in the first quarter. Whitney Williams was the other Dino that stuck a three in the first as she finished with seven on the night.
Carbon ended up with nine players scoring in the total team effort. Others who contributed were Patricia Smith 2, Samantha Smith 4, Felicia Olmos 2, and Cherelle Julian 1.
Coach Carlson was ecstatic with the win. It was a total team effort. The girls played one of the most solid games of the season. The team that is lacking any seniors and being guided by a first year coach, was not expected to produce much. But they have proven everyone wrong and had a season that has left nothing on the floor.
They now head to Dixie College for the next round. The Dinos will face Canyonview on Thursday night. Tip off time for that game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
