Joe Martinez
PRICE – Our loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather Jose “Joe” Adolfo Martinez passed away peacefully at his granddaughter Kathy’s home on his 95th birthday.
He was born Feb. 17, 1912 in Chama, N.M., to Eloy and Lucy Romero Martinez. Married Seniada Valdez Dec. 4, 1928 in Gallina, N.M.; she died Oct. 25, 1986.
Member of the Catholic Church. Longtime resident of Carbon County where he was a retired member of the United Mine Workers of America.
He shared a special love for the outdoors, gardening, fishing and camping with his family. Joe had a great eye for livestock, especially fine horses.
He will be dearly missed by his family and many longtime friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Kathy Jo and Bobbi Jo and their families for the exceptional care they provided to their grandpa.
Survived by two daughters, Effie Roberts, Salt Lake City, Celia Martinez, Sunnyside; three sons, Pat (Carol) Martinez, Amadeo Martinez, Joe A. Martinez Jr., all of Price; and his longtime friend, Rachel Sanchez, Price. He was also survived by two sisters, two brothers, 35 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by wife and five sons.
Funeral Mass Friday, Feb. 23, 10 a.m., at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service Thursday evening, 7 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will receive friends at Mitchell’s Thursday and Friday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Price City Cemetery.
Helen Maxfield
CASTLE DALE – Helen L. Maxfield passed away on Feb. 18, 2007 at the Emery County Care Center in Ferron.
Helen was born July 18, 1918 in Magna, to Leslie and Ellen Robinson. She married Weldon H. (Shorty) Maxfield on July 3, 1935.
She is survived by their three sons, Rex D. of Huntington; G. Dell (Billie); Kenneth H. of Castle Dale; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. She is also survived by many extended family members and good friends. She is preceded in death by husband, parents and two brothers.
A graveside service will be Feb. 21, at 2 p.m. at the Manti City Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Bertha Sanders
PRICE – Bertha Fausett Sanders, 88, died Feb. 15, 2007 in Price.
She was born Jan. 21, 1919 in Price to F. LeRoy and Elva (Olsen) Fausett. She married Frank Love Sanders on Feb. 8, 1941 in Price.
She loved spending time with her family. She made a point to get together with her sisters daily if possible. Bertha loved playing cards with her dear friends. She also was in a sewing club that she really enjoyed a lot.
Bertha is survived by one son, Frank Lynn Sanders and Elaine of Novato, Calif.; two brothers, Grant (Betty) Fausett, Price, Max (Genie) Fausett, Payson, Ariz.; two grandson, Corey Sanders of Santa Barbara, Calif.; Troy Sanders of San Francisco, Calif.; and their mother, JoeLene Sanders; two great-grandchildren, Giovanni Sanders and Mia Sanders. She is preceded in death by husband, Frank Love Sanders; three sisters, Louise Davis, Lucille Palmer, Donna Bean; and two brothers, Bobby Fausett and LeRoy Fausett.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Feb. 21, noon, at Price 5th Ward LDS Chapel, 545 E. 400 North. Viewing will be Tuesday, Feb. 20, 6 to 8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary, 680 E. 100 South, Price, and also one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
Fredric Meeks
HELPER – Fredric J. Meeks, age 60, passed away unexpectedly Feb. 14, 2007 at his home.
He was born June 5, 1946 to Jack and Joan Schmidt Meeks.
Gaduate of Clearfield High School and Stevens-Henager College of Business. Honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Fred was a very simple person who always thought of others first. He enjoyed people, and especially the time he shared with the children at the Castle Valley Center in Price. Fred was an avid reader, he loved to watch movies and go fishing. He was employed at Swift’s in Helper where he was a friend to all. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survived by parents, Jack and Joan Meeks, Sunset; brothers, Howard (Kathie) Meeks, West Point; Joseph (Dee) Meeks, Ogden; sisters, Margaret (Buddy) Buchanan, Drakesboro, Ky.; lifelong companion, Colleen Wilson, Helper; sons, Colter (Amy) Wilson, Salt Lake City; Rajens (Desiree) Wilson, Price; and little buddy and special grandson, Riley Wilson.
Funeral service Saturday, Feb. 17, 2 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 East Main Street in Price. Interment, Mountain View Cemetery, Helper.
Thelma Wright
HELPER – Thelma Manchester Wright, age 95, passed away Feb. 18, 2007 at Parkdale Care Center in Price.
She was born July 11, 1911 in Kenilworth, to Charles LeRoy Manchester and Jessie Irene Cole. Married Wilmer Claude Wright Aug. 22, 1931 in Randolph; he died April 25, 2000.
Member of the Episcopal Church.
Thelma loved camping with family and friends, and spending the winters in Yuma, Ariz., with her husband. She enjoyed crafts, knitting and crocheting.
Survived by one daughter and two sons, Claudette (Lou) Mele, Price; Walter L. (Linda) Wright, Paonia, Colo.; Jerry (Heather) Wright, Price; nine grandchildren, Louie, Greg, Jamie, Julie, Tonie, Craig, Jerry, Shannon and Tidge; 29 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband; granddaughter, Patti; great-granddaughter, Mandy; sisters, Betty Jewkes, Margaret James; brothers, Maurice “Bud” Manchester, John “Jack” Manchester; and two infant sisters.
Memorial service Friday, Feb. 23, 10 a.m., at Price City Cemetery, under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
