Julia Potts goes strong to the rim in Tuesday’s game. Potts scored 20 in the game and pulled down seven rebounds during the conference win.

Underestimating a team that appeared much weaker on paper, the Carbon girls played a tentative first half game that left them in a hole they had to climb out of to secure a win over Juan Diego. The final score of 39-29 doesn’t reflect the slow start the Lady Dinos got off to.
Neither team could get it going in the first quarter of play. Juan Diego managed to hit a pair of buckets, while Carbon went 3-4 at the line. That was the only points put on the board by either team.
Juan Diego got rolling a bit in the second and added 12 points to extend their lead to seven at the half. The Dinos only managed two field goals the entire first half of play. Their offense appeared a bit confused as Juan Diego switched back and forth from zone d to man to man.
As the team headed to the locker room, the Carbon coaches huddled for a quick strategy meeting before heading in to regroup the squad. Whatever they said to the team helped. The Dinos came out after the break looking like a different team.
Holding Juan Diego to four points with some aggressive defense, the offense stepped up and put 15 on the board. The Dinos not only erased the deficit, but took a two point lead into the fourth. Keeping up the pressure the squad continued to add to their lead. Frustration began to show in the play of Juan Diego and they were called for a technical when a player slammed the ball after a call.
Julia Potts stepped into the roll of team leader with 20 points and seven rebounds. Megan Garvin helped out with 10 points. “It was an ugly win, but we’ll take it,” Commented Coach Carlson after the game. “We have to go to Delta on Thursday and that is going to be a tough game.”
The team will be on the road Thursday in Delta and will return to play North Sanpete at home next Tuesday.
