Erika Potts drops into the lane in a previous game against Pinneview. Potts led all scorers with 13 points.

This was a game that the team knew would be their biggest challenge so far. Morgan, ranked number one on the polls, has been crushing their opponents.
Carbon traveled up to Morgan to take on the Trojans in enemy territory. In a seesaw affair that would allow only one team to come out on top, Morgan edged out the Dinos by one. With a final score of 33-34, the Lady Dinos were close to the upset of the season. For the undefeated Trojans this was their closest game of the season.
It was the Carbon defense that made the difference in the game. Morgan has been used to beating their opponents by 10 or more in this early season of play. The Dinos took the early lead by one in the first quarter and left for the locker room at the half holding onto a tie.
Behind by one at the end of the third, the Dinos matched points with the Trojans in the fourth, but could not hit both free throws in the final three seconds of the game. Up by only one they fouled Morgan who scored the winning points on a pair of free throws. Coach Carlson was a bit disappointed in the loss. “It was a game we should have won. We had it in our hand and then lost it on the line.”
Erika Potts led all scorers with 13 points followed by Julia Potts with 10. Ericka Potts was named player of the game by the Carbon coaches for her overall play. She led the team in rebounds and held one of Morgan’s most prolific scorers to two points. Also receiving praise from the coach were Samantha and Patricia Smith. Carlson had them guarding the Trojan’s hot three point shooter who has been averaging 20 points a game and the pair held her to seven.
The team knew that Morgan had a pair of hot shooters going into the game and Carlson had the team run a triangle defense with three playing zone and two players guarding man-to-man. With Erika Potts and the Smith Sisters playing man D on Morgan’s aces, they kept the Trojans to one of the lowest scoring games they had all season.
Region play begins on Tuesday January 9th with Juan Diego rolling into town. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at the Carbon High gym. On January 11th the team will move on to Delta to battle the Rabbits. Coach Carlson and team are looking to start out region play by beating Juan Diego.
