The Utah Permanent Community Impact Fund Board met on Dec. 7, and approved $10,430,000 in grants and low-interest loans to provide assistance for communities in the southeast region of Utah. This meeting marks the end of the Board’s three funding cycles for 2006. The Board funds annually in April, September and December.
“The board’s main goal is to help mitigate the impact felt in our mineral producing communities,” stated Joe Piccolo, mayor of Price and CIB board member. “We are aware of the need and understand the magnitude of the projects we have funded throughout the year, including public safety, water and road improvements.”
As part of the allocations, East Carbon City received a grant for $120,000 to renovate the city hall.
Emery County was awarded $5 million loan for 20 years at zero percent interest for construction of a new swimming pool complex in Castle Dale.
Emery County Special Service District 1 was awarded $2.7 million in the form of a zero percent, five year loan for road improvements to the South Moore Cutoff Road.
Castle Valley Special Service District was awarded a $830,000 grant and a $1,660,000 loan for five years at zero percent interest for projects on the 2007 capital improvements list in eight communities in western Emery County.
The San Juan County Municipal Building Authority received a $120,000 grant for construction of a new senior center in La Sal.
