Deadline for FYI – is Tuesday at 5 p.m. Submissions may be sent by regular mail, dropped off at the office at 845 East Main in Price or e-mailed to fyi@sunad.com. Items submitted after the deadline will run in the next week’s FYI. All items are subject to editing.
Carbon County Humane Society – offers clinics the second Tuesday of the month at 5 S. Carbon Avenue, Price. Contact the society at 637-0588 for appointments. Doghouses are needed and members will collect donations at local residences.
Immunization clinic hours – Clinics are scheduled at Southeastern Utah Health District Monday through Thursday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Women’s cancer screening – Women 50 years of age or older may qualify for a free breast and cervical cancer exams and mammograms. For information, call the health district at 637-3671. Women ages 40 to 49 may qualify for a low-cost exam.
East Carbon Neighborhood Watch – meetings are the third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the senior center.
Free legal clinics – Utah Legal Services has scheduled free clinics the second and fourth Monday of the month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the district court complex, 149 E. 100 South, Price. Residents should bring all documents pertaining to questions. For information, call the agency toll-free at 1-800-662-1563.
Price Main Street program – The board meets the first Wednesday of the month at noon in room 207 of Price City Hall. For more information, contact Melanie Steele at 820-1290.
Carbon County RSVP – Residents who would like to lend a helping hand or need volunteers may contact the Price office at 637-9118 or the East Carbon office.
Cans for CARE-A-VAN – Donations assist the elderly with transportation to medical appointments. Aluminum cans may be dropped off at Howa’s on Carbonville Road. Residents may call the program at 637-9488 to make pick up arrangements. Cans must be bagged.
Helper community development committee – meets Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the civic auditorium.
Carbon Family Resource Center – Story time is Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. The free lending library open to the community. Library includes items for children, teens, parents and grandparents. CFRC is located at Castle Valley Center, 755 N. Cedar Hills Drive, Price. Call the center for hours at 650-3830.
CEU Library – Hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. The library is closed on weekends during school breaks. For information, contact the library at 613-5209.
Foster grandparents – Volunteers are needed. Individuals who are at least 60 years old, have a limited income and time to share with children may qualify. FGP volunteers serve 20 hours per week. For information, call the program at 613-0987.
Rape crisis hot line – Rape or domestic violence victims in the Carbon-Emery County area may contact the local 24-hour crisis line toll-free at 1-866-894-8610.
Golden Rule Mission – Residents may donate tax-deductible garage/yard sale leftovers to Golden Rule Mission in Helper.
Carbon County Animal Shelter – AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Price library – Hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.; closed Sunday and holidays. Story time is Tuesday at 5 p.m., Wednesday at 5 p.m. and Thursday at 1 p.m. Toddler story time is Monday at 11 a.m. The library is looking for old paperback books. The toddler Halloween costume party is planned Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. Anyone interested in English as a second language or basic literacy classes may contact the library. Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes, divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. Parenting classes are scheduled Thursday at 1:30 p.m. For information, call the center at 637-0281. The center are also collecting for displaced families. The center is collecting beds, dressers, couches/loveseats, tables and chairs, kitchen supplies/appliances and linens.
Helper library – Hours are Monday through Thursday, 1:30 to 7 p.m.; Friday, noon to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Extra hours for study groups may be arranged. For information, contact the library during business hours at 472-5601.
CEU museum – A program for children ages 5 to 12 is slated the second Saturday of the month. Activities will be presented in the classroom from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Space is limited to 20 participants per Saturday. People interested in attending may contact Shawna Carroll at 613-5760. Food handlers classes – are scheduled Nov. 15 and Dec. 6 at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. in Price at Southeastern Utah Health District, 28 South 100 East. AARP fraud forum – will be presented at the College of Eastern Utah on Nov. 18 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. An afternoon seminar on identity theft and fraud will be presented by the Utah Attorney General’s Office. A box lunch will be provided. To register, call AARP toll-free at 1-888-687-2277.

Price City Spooktacular – will be presented Oct. 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event includes booths, games, treats for children and a costume contest.
Cinco de Mayo – committee is seeking Carbon County residents interested in helping plan next year’s celebration. Contact Ruby Cardova or East Carbon City Hall at 888-6613.
Messiah rehearsals – are scheduled for singers Thursday at 7 p.m. at Emery High and Sunday at 7 p.m. at the CEU music building.
Sunnyside craft fair – is slated Nov. 4 from noon until 4 p.m. at the Union Hall. For booth information, contact Sunnyside City Hall at 888-444. The event will include food, crafts and baked items.
Culture Connection -The schedule includes Nov. 9-11, 13, 16-18, 20, Godspell by Castle Valley Community Theater; Dec. 3, the Messiah. Summer concerts are presented in the Price Peace Gardens at 7:30 p.m. Fall concerts are at Price Civic Auditorium.
Head Start open house – is planned Nov. 6 from 1 to 3 p.m. at 685 N. 400 East, Huntington.
Halloween dance, pumpkin carving – The event will be presented Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. at the East Carbon City Park.
Halloween museum – the CEU Prehistoric Museum will host a trick or treat with the dinosaurs event Oct. 27 and Oct. 28 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The activity is open to children from infant to 10 years of age. The event will include a scary dinos tour and goodies. The haunted museum will be from 8 until 10 p.m. For information, call the museum at 613-5060.
Wellington holiday craft fair – is slated Nov. 10 and Nov. 11 from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. To reserve a space, the city hall at 637-4960, extension 120.
Archaeological lecture – The Southern Route will be presented Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. in the CEU Alumni Room at the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center. The lecture is free to public. Veterans


VFW trick or treat – is slated Oct. 31 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the post, located at 147 West Main in Price.

Castleview Hospital Auxiliary – will sponsor a bazaar Nov. 9 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the hospital classroom. The event includes pies, cakes, cookies, popcorn balls and craft items.
MOPS – The Mothers of Preschoolers group meets the second and fourth Monday of the month at 6 p.m. at Price Chapel.
Daughters of the Utah breakfast, lunch – will be Nov. 4 at 55 South 1st East in Elmo. Breakfast will be served from 8 to 10 a.m., followed by lunch from 10 am. to 4 p.m. Prize drawings are at 3 p.m.

Recovery classes – are scheduled Monday to Friday at the Golden Rule Mission in Helper from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Classes include relapse prevention, Big Book, 12 steps, traditions, spirituality and life skills. AA is 6 p.m. daily.
Price Recovery group – meets Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the CEU computer building.
Recovery Inc. – The Price self-help group for people with nervous symptoms and fears meets Thursday at 7 p.m. at Banasky Insurance, located at 6 W. Main , Price.

FUTURES – The Carbon County NAMI affiliate, a support group developed for families who have children with challenges, meets the first and third Wednesday of the month. The first Wednesday is designated as a caregiver support night. The third Wednesday is family activity night.
Scooter & Wheelchair Users ADA support group – meets the second Tuesday of the month at 1 p.m. at the housing authority, 251 S. 1600 East, Price.

Look Good, Feel Better – The American Cancer Society program helps women address the appearance related side effects of treatment. The group meets the first Monday of the month from 6 to 8 p.m. at Castleview Hospital.
Teen parenting class – is scheduled Monday and Wednesday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Lighthouse. Thirty-six hours will equal one elective credit.
