Construction is scheduled to start repairs on Utah Highway 29, the road running from Orangeville to Ephraim west of Joes Valley Reservoir.
The project area is on the switchbacks where slides and sloughing have occurred, according to the Price-Ferron ranger district.
Work on the highway improvements was scheduled to start around July 25 and continue until the Oct. 15 completion date.
The ranger district indicated that the contractor is allowed to close the road to public traffic within the project area during the following times:
• Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. from the beginning of work on the project until Sept. 15.
On weekends, the contractor will limit construction-caused delays to public traffic to a maximum of 30 minutes per passage through the project area.
•If the contract period is extended, delays to public traffic will be no more than 30 minutes per passage through the project area on all days.
There could be minor delays at the waste site north of the pavilion while the contractor is constructing temporary ramps on highway 00008 to access the area, noted the ranger district.
The contractor does not foresee having to close the road for four-hour periods, but Carbon County residents should be prepared for such delays when making travel plans.
Construction activity will include clearing and grubbing, installing drain pipes, constructing drain ditches and building a rock buttress along the roadway, explained the ranger district.
Waste material will be hauled from the project site and placed along the west embankment of Highway 29 north of the Joes Valley pavilion.
