Paur names new recruits

By Sun Advocate

Coach Dave Paur is pleased with the strength of his returning players for next year. So much in fact he was able to be very selective in recruiting for this year’s up coming team.
So far he has only signed five players to join the nucleus of players who are coming back to play this year.
On a tip from a former player, Paur looked to the north and was able to convince heavily recruited Holly Rogers of Springville, Ore. to sign with the College of Eastern Utah. Rogers is a 6’4″ player who averaged 20 points a game in her junior year. As a senior she was double and triple teamed the entire year and still averaged 17 points per game. San Jose State was one team hotly pursuing Rogers before she signed with the Eagles.
Canyonview’s Brandy King made the choice to sign with CEU. She made the game winning shot that defeated Emery in the 3A finals this year. She was named 3A MVP. King stands at 5’10”.
Bresha Smith is also from Canyonview although she transferred in January to CEU from Division 1 Northern Colorado University. She plays point guard and is a suburb ball handler and passer.
Reaching into Colorado, CEU grabbed Erin Richardson who played in Fruita. Richardson is a shooting guard and will play at the one and two positions. She has a deadly three point shooter. She made 110 three pointers in her junior and senior year.
Last, but not least is 6’11” Kendra Dalaboute from Cottonwood. She will be able to play the 3, 4 and 5 positions. She is very athletic and is a premier 3 point shooter as well.
Two other players will also join the squad.
Abby Meecham from Union will join the team as a 2-3 guard.
Also coming is Natalee Hansen from Emery. Hansen’s playing time is questionable because she is returning from surgery to repair an ACL injury. She may red shirt the year to make sure she is healthy. She averaged 17 point a game as a junior, but that dropped in her senior year as she struggled with the torn ACL injury.
These players will join Mallory Holm, Staci Little, Elisha Harris, Jenny Fisco, Halee Rasmussen, Maquette Potts and Ashley Taylor to form a solid team for the 2006-07 year.
Potts red shirted last year and is anxious to see action in the coming season.
The 6’3″ Little was named to the honorable mention team and also named to the all-conference team in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
In the 17 years that Paur has been around, it is the first time a freshman was given that honor.
