Cami Carlson was named Carbon’s new girl’s basketball coach last week.

Last week Principal Robert Cox announced that Carbon High has named Cami Carlson as the new head coach of the Carbon High girl’s basketball team.
Carlson has been the assistant coach for four years under Coach Bruce Bean. Bean recently stepped down from the basketball program for family and personal reasons.
Carlson had also been head coach of the Mont Harmon program for two years before she joined the high school coaching staff. She teaches both English and US History.
She played three sports in her high school years and went on the play basketball at the collegiate level with the College of Eastern Utah.
Five knee surgeries sidelined her basketball career. She finished her English degree attending Southern Utah University, but did not play basketball while attending.
As Bean made his decision to step down, he talked with Carlson about the possibility of her moving into the head coaching position. She jumped at the chance when it became available.
Carlson will bring consistency to the program as it enters a true rebuilding year.Don Garvin has been named as the JV coach.
No decision has been made yet as to who will take over the sophomore squad.
Carlson is exited to get started on that rebuilding process. Even though the team lost many starting seniors after this past season and there wasn’t a strong junior class behind them to take their place, next years team may surprise people.
Carlson expects to see great things from several of the incoming juniors and sophomores. Several of these girls saw court action at the end of the season and were able to step up to the task.
She says the team will need to be fast.
“Fast breaks and full court presses will be the key to our season” Carlson revealed.
With a younger team she will use their speed and quickness to take the advantage. The girls will need to be in peak condition to follow the game plan she is setting forth. She will also be introducing several new plays to the new offense.
The team can officially begin to work out in June. Carlson will hold open gym five days a week through the entire summer to bring the girls up to speed. The team will also participate in a number of camps and summer tournaments so they can to begin to gel as a team.
It looks to be an exiting year, next season as the team will see many new faces from the top down.
