Deadline for FYI – is Tuesday at 5 p.m. Submissions may be sent by regular mail, dropped off at the office at 845 East Main in Price or emailed to fyi@sunad.com. Items submitted after the deadline will run in the next week’s FYI if timely. All items are subject to editing.
Carbon County Youth Commission – Applications to serve on the commission are being accepted through April 21. The commission is designed to give youth a chance to share opinions while working with local government on a variety of issues. Applications may be picked up from Sandy Lehman at the county commissioners office at 120 E. Main Street, Price.
Helper burn period – will be until May 3. Burn permits are required and may be picked up for free at the Helper fire and police departments.
Eating Disorders Seminar – College of Eastern Utah’s student counseling office is sponsoring an eating disorders seminar April 20 from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Little Theatre. There is no charge to attend. Refreshments will be provided. For more information, contact Tracy Kitchen at 613-5326.
Cinco de Mayo Celebration – will be presented May 6. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at Miners Food Town Store and end at Sunnyside park. The celebration will start at East Carbon City Park at noon. Activities include Mexican food, free games for kids, a climbing wall, raffle and more, Mexican dance with live music from 8 p.m. until midnight. Free child screenings – The early intervention program, Emery School District preschool and Head Start will screen children April 25 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for possible admission/enrollment into available programs or preschool at the Southeastern Utah Health District, 28 S. 100 East, Price. Residents may call Head Start at 613-8494, extension 101, to schedule appointments or for more information. Residents should bring children’s birth certificates and immunization records to appointments Screenings include vision, hearing, speech/language, developmental and immunization check.
Wellington youth rodeo – Youth up to age 16 may register to participate in the Wellington Mountaineer’s junior rodeo series May 6 and May 20. Free tutoring – Carbon High School FBLA members are offering free tutoring services to students in a variety of subjects. For information, contact Carbon High School at 637-2463.
Helper spring cleanup – will be in effect the month of April. City crews will pic up furniture, appliances, metal, cement and branches, which must be cut in four-foot lengths. All debris must be placed in separate piles. No cars or car parts will be picked up. There will be no backtracking a and stacks must be placed next to the curb, off the road and sidewalks. The pick-up schedule includes:
April 17 to April 28 – east Helper, east Martin, Locust Street, Maple Street, Poplar Street, Main Street, east of U.S. 6.

Immunization clinic hours – Clinics are scheduled at Southeastern Utah Health District Monday through Thursday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Castle Country Habitat for Humanity – will work every Saturday possible to frame, roof and winterize a wheelchair accessible house in Castle Dale for a single mom, four children, and her care-giver. Volunteers are needed; especially a construction supervisor. Board members are also needed. Donations may be sent to HHCC, PO Box 724, Price, UT 84501. Residents may volunteer for workdays, donate aluminum cans, help sponsor a fundraiser or get applications by calling Katherine Foster at 650-0074.
Head Start – Head Start is a free preschool program for children ages 3 to 5. Early Head Start is a free program for prenatal women and infants 0-3. The program offers prenatal health and education services, child development education, home visits, group activities, family and community partnerships. East Carbon Neighborhood Watch – Sunnyside, Columbia and East Carbon residents are urged to attend Neighborhood Watch meetings the third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the senior center .
Free Legal Clinic – Utah Legal Services has scheduled free legal clinics the second and fourth Monday of the month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the district court complex, 149 E. 100 South, Price Residents should bring all documents pertaining to questions or cases. Cans for CARE-A-VAN – Aluminum can drive to assist the elderly with transportation to medical appointments. Drop off at Howa’s on Carbonville Road or call 637-9488 for pick up. Cans must be bagged.

Second Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation – is looking for adult volunteers to feed orphaned animals and birds and clean facilities. Donations are always accepted. Dedicated hunter hours may be worked through the program. Call Debbie Pappas at 650-3441 for information.
Pro-Care – The after school is seeking high school students and adult volunteers to help with daily activities at local elementary schools and substitute for regular VISTA workers when necessary. Carbon Family Resource Center – Story Time every Wednesday at 11:15 am. CFRC is a free lending library open to everyone in our community. Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings.
