County housing authority director Lynda Varner presents a quilt to prize drawing winner Lanore Cunningham.
The Price resident purchased the winning ticket during the annual fundraising activity conducted by the AmeriCorps VISTA volunteers working at the Golden Rule Mission in Helper.
In addition to Cunningham, prize winners included Gaylene Hrienson of Helper and Vic Staley of Castle Dale.
Proceeds from the event are placed in the humanitarian fund by Bill Rountree, houseman of the mission, and Nancy Boswell, board member.
The humanitarian fund provides once in a lifetime financial assistance to persons needing help with rent, utilities, utility deposits, etc., explained Varner
There is no geographical restriction on persons requesting assistance. But applicants are required to submit a form available at the mission stating what the request will cover.
Requests are reviewed the first week of the month.
Checks are submitted to the recipients’ landlords, utility companies and/or doctors depending on the request.
The Golden Rule Mission is one of approximately 400 AmeriCorps sponsors across the country.
