John Howa
PRICE – John Mose Howa, age 91, passed away Nov. 28, 2005 at his home while surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Jan. 13, 1914 in Hiawatha, to Mose John and Sophia Gazelle Howa. Married Kathryn Woodard April 26, 1941 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Helper.
John Howa was devoted to serving all citizens in Carbon County. Never was there an organization or family needing support that Johnnie wasn’t there to help. The legacy he left his family was his loving heart and giving spirit. Carbon County has lost one of its favorite sons. John was a member of the Catholic Church and will be remembered by all.
Survived by loving wife of 64 years, Kathryn Howa, Price; daughter, Jean Ann (Kay) Dimick, Helper; 10 sons, Mose John Howa, Birmingham, Ala.; Deward Lee (Linda) Howa; Robert Lynn (Linda) Howa; Daniel (Debra) Howa; Rex Abraham Howa, all of Price; Roy Christopher (Jackie) Howa, Mesa, Ariz.; Paul Joseph (Udella) Howa, Price; Phillip James (Jamie) Howa, Helper; Edward John (Wilma) Helper; Frank Mathew (Nancy) Howa, Los Angeles, Calif.; brother, Edward Michael (Bernice) Howa, Twin Falls, Idaho; 33 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, many loving nieces, nephews and a community of friends. Preceded in death by parents; son, David George; grandson, Lewis Howa; brothers, Richard, Joseph, James; and sister, Mary Louise Ghirardelli.
Funeral Mass Friday, Dec. 2, 10 a.m., at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., with the vigil service starting at 7 p.m. Committal service Mountain View Cemetery, Helper. In lieu of flowers, make donations to the Notre Dame de Lourdes Building Fund, 160 N. Carbon Ave., Price, Utah.
Johnny Melo
HUNTINGTON – John Andrew Melo Jr., age 28, passed away Nov. 25, 2005.
He was born Aug. 3, 1977 in Colorado Springs, Colo. to John A. and Diane Joe Melo. Married Kym Ockey July 26, 2003 in Price.
One of Johnny’s greatest passions was horseback riding. He also enjoyed camping and hunting. He loved being with his family no matter what they were doing, especially his children, nieces and nephews. Johnny was very well loved and could make everyone laugh. He had a heart of gold and would help anyone in need.
Johnny could watch a boring movie and by the end of the movie he would have everyone laughing and enjoying the movie. Johnny loved listening to his music and each song had a special meaning to him. At the time of his passing he was employed with Nelco. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Survived by wife, Kym Melo; children, Kyra, Zakhary, HayLee, Alyssa, Levi, Aspyn, Jazmynn, Preston, MeMarie; parents, John (Diane) Melo, Huntington; sister, Charolotte Melo, Huntington; brother, Thomas Melo, Roosevelt; grandparents, Shirley Melo, Gusher; Thelma Joe, Colorado; John (Dee) Lister, Price; nieces and nephews, Matt, Sharice, Tristan, Dalton, Aubrey, Kylie, Michaela and Imagen; and many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Preceded in death by sister, Diane Kay Melo; papa, John Melo; uncle, Ronald Melo; and Granny Lawson.
Funeral service Wednesday, Nov. 30, 11 a.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday one hour prior to service. Interment, Cleveland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made at the Eastern Utah Community Credit Union in Johnny’s name.
Martin Ballard
PRICE – Martin “Marty” H. Ballard, age 66, passed away at his home on Nov. 23, 2005.
He was born Oct. 19, 1939 in Columbia, to Howard T. Ballard and Maurine Lewis Anderson. Married Gaylene Mills June 11, 1960 at the Institute of Religion in Price.
Lifelong resident of Carbon County and graduate of Carbon High School Class of 1958. He worked at various jobs in the area before becoming an electrician and later going into the electrical business. He was a hard working man of great ambitions always having many projects in the works. “Marty” as everyone called him, was an avid horseman and outdoorsman. He had a great love for animals including his trick horse Streak that he started to train at age 13 and was showing him in rodeos at age 16. He loved to hunt bear with his many friends and well trained hounds down at Elk Ridge in Blanding.
Marty was well respected and loved by all who knew him, he will be dearly missed by all.
Survived by wife, Gaylene; sons, Michael (Linda); Lance; mother, Maurine; sisters, Janet Beach; mother-in-law, Thusnelda Mills, all of Price; brother-in-law, Gary (LaVange) Mills, Spring Glen; three beautiful granddaughters, Mikelle, Lacie and Haley; and many loving nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts. Preceded in death by father, sister, stepfather, and father-in-law.
Funeral service Tuesday, Nov. 29, 11 a.m., Westwood LDS Ward Chapel, (located behind the hospital). Family will be at the church Tuesday one hour prior to service. Interment, Price City cemetery.
