The region 8 track and field meet was held at Emery High School on Wednesday, May 4.
In the boys event, Tyler Munns led the boys to a third place finish in the 800-meter run and a qualifying place to the state meet next week.
Jacob Perez qualified for the finals in the 400-meter sprint and ended up in sixth place in the finals.
Paul Goodrich placed fifth in the 3200-meter run and sixth in the 1600-meter run. He needed to place fourth or better to continue on to state.
In the girls events, Mikaleen Loveless led the way by winning the girls high jump. Carbon girls swept the girls high jump by placing all four girls. Danielle Martino placed second, Allie Stewart placed third, and Brittany Banning placed fourth. All four girls qualified for state in this event.
Amie Stewart placed fifth in the long jump and qualified for state by placing fourth in the 100-meter hurdles and third in the 300-meter hurdles. Allie Stewart was right behind Amie Stewart, placing fifth in the 100-meter hurdles.
In the throwing events, Alice Johnson and Danielle Olson both made it to the finals, placing fifth and sixth respectively. Both girls also had personal best throws.
Loveless and Jana Burrows both made Academic All Region 8 in track and field.
The state championships will be held at BYU in Provo on Friday and Saturday, May 13 and 14.
