Mayor, council seats opening for election

For many local residents, fall 2005 will be time to vote in off year elections. At the November polls, all towns in Carbon County and one district will fill spots on the governing bodies.
In Price, there will be four seats up for grabs. The mayor’s office, currently occupied by Joe Piccolo, will be one of the positions open.
According to state law, there are also two Price council positions open, one currently filled by Betty Wheeler and one by Jeanie McEvoy.
But in the 2005 election, a third council seat occupied by Mae Aguayo will also be up for grabs.
Aguayo was appointed by the council late last year when Joe Christman resigned and she will have to run for re-election if she wants to keep the seat.
In Wellington, there will be the mayor’s position occupied by Karl Houskeeper and two council seats open.
Johnny Pappas was appointed to serve in one of the Wellington council seats because of the resignation of William Bates. The other seat up for grabs is presently filled by Ed Chavez.
Helper will also have the mayor’s office, currently filled by Joe Bonacci, and two council positions open.
The opening Helper council positions include the seats presently filled by Tony Gonzales and Robert Welch.
In East Carbon City, Mayor Dale Andrews will be up for re-election should he choose to file to run in the race. The two opening council seats are presently filled by Joyce Caviness and Darlene Kuhns.
In Sunnyside, the mayor’s office occupied by Bruce Andrews will be up for grabs along with three council positions.
The opening East Carbon council seats are presently filled by Eugene Vernon, Doug Parsons and Tony Riffle.
The Price River Water Improvement District board will have one position open. The seat on the PRWID panel is currently occupied by Keith Cox from Spring Glen.
Those interested in any of these seats need to also be aware of the filing deadlines.
“The filing period is from July 15 to August 15,” said deputy county clerk Alexis Horsley. “That is the only period in which people can file. I have had some people ask if they could file early, but they can’t. They must do it between those dates.”
Once the election is over, swearing in ceremonies for the newly elected officials will take place after the first of the year.
