The Carbon High boys soccer team made a heroic attempt at state this year, but were shut out by and 0-4 loss against Ogden on Friday April 29.
The game against Ogden was the 3A first round game of this years high school soccer playoffs.
The Dinos did great this year, coming the closest to number one in region eight than in previous years.
Ogden scored three goals in the first half of the game, showing the Dinos what they were made of.
Ogden Tigers Gerard Vasquez and Logan Toupin both scored early in the first half, giving Carbon a tough lead to contend with. Still in the first half, Toupin assisted Brad Kast with the third goal of the half.
Even though the lead was demanding, the Dinos still fought hard against the Tigers going into the second half.
The Dinos never gave up, trying hard to defeat the Tigers well into the second half.
The second half wasn’t as action packed as the first, Carbon still had no goals, and Ogden only scoring one.
Assisted by Vasquez, Nick Smock went out in the second and scored the only goal of the half, while Ogden goalkeeper, Jan Robbins, earned the shutout victory against Carbon.
The Ogden game was preceded by Carbon against Waterford on April 26, which turned into a loss for the Dinos, Waterford with a 7-1 win.
Carbon Dino, Hunter King, was the only goal scorer of the game for Carbon High. He scored one goal in the first half while Waterford’s team scored four goals.
Daniel Duke of Waterford scored three amazing goals for the team, making it hard for the Carbon Dinos to come back in the second.
Matt Ward, Kip Robinson, Stephen Phillips and Cliff Snyder also scored goals for Waterford.
Charlie Mimnaugh and Jason Parkin of Waterford had the winning goal kick of the game.
Just under a week before the Waterford game, on April 20, Carbon went up against Delta, which started the three in a row losing streak for Carbon High.
Delta moved to number two in the region, while Carbon High came in right behind them, ending the season at number three in region eight.
The region game was a close one for both teams from the beginning. Both the Carbon and the Delta teams were tied with one goal in the first half and two more in the second.
Nick Teny, Kevin Bunnell and Todd Palmer of Carbon all scored goals for the team. Delta’s Jason May scored one goal for the Rabbits while Kurt Lindstrom scored an amazing three times, including one golden goal in the second overtime. This propelled the Rabbits to a 4-3 win over the Dinos.
