CHS Track and Field Competes at Delta Meet

On April 2, Carbon High track and field team traveled to Delta, for a qualifying meet.
Amie Stewart led the field by qualifying for the finals in three events. She placed sixth in both the 100 and 300-meter hurdles, for which she received medals. She also placed seventh in the ladies long jump.
Allie Stewart just missed qualifying in both the high jump and the 100-meter hurdles.
In the boys races the middle distance boys did a great job by posting personal best times. Kent Olsen, Beau Morley, and Orie Winger all did good in the 3200-meter run and the 1600-meter run.
Tyler Munns posted a personal best in the 800-meter run.
Leo Yu lead the boys field in the 100 and 200-meter sprints.
Stetson Kunz was the best effort man of the meet. He competed in the high jump, shotput, discus, and even ran the 1600-meter race fairly decent without any real training.
On Tuesday, April 5, track and field competed in the Region Freshman-Sophomore meet in Lehi, where all five teams in the region were represented here. This allowed the younger athletes a chance to compete with athletes in the same classes.
Rosemary Dinkins was the only girl to represent Carbon High, competing in four events, having personal best times in all events.
In the boys events Colton Howes led the sprinters, placing third in the 100-meter sprint and third in the 200-meter sprint. He also helped Carbons 4×100 meter relay to a second place finish.
Leo Yu finished fifth in the 100-meter and sixth in the 200-meter sprint, and also ran on the second place 4×100 meter relay team.
Paul Goodrich placed first in the 1600-meter run, second in the 800-meter run, and third in the 400-meter run. He also competed in the hurdle events and the 200-meter run.
Kent Olsen finished sixth in the 1600-meter run.
Also placing respectively in the 800-meter run was Orie Winger, fourth; Anthony Kouris, fifth; and James Machciaski, sixth.
James McKendrick placed fourth in the 400-meter sprint and third in the javelin.
West Hunsaker placed fifth in the boys javelin.
Jake Malone placed fifth in both the boys long jump and high jump.
All of the freshmen and sophomores had personal best times in their events.
The next meet will be April 12 at Mount Pleasant, and after that the next home meet will be on April 16 at Carbon High School. This will be a large meet, but not as many teams as the first big qualification meet which Carbon High hosted in March. At this meet there was 24 teams and 860 athletes.
Emery High school will be hosting the region competition for track and field on May 4. Please come out and support your local team, there is no charge to come and watch the meet.
