College of Eastern Utah baseball lost three games in Price on Friday and Saturday, March 25 and 26 to College of Southern Idaho. In game one on Friday, CEU lost 0-4. Game two was called on account of hail and snow, resuming Saturday with a final score of 1-6. Game three on Saturday resulted in another loss for CEU, 2-10. Game four was canceled due to lack of time.
Eastern Utah hit less than half of what CSI did for the weekend. In game one, CEU hit just two, while CSI hit nine. Game two was the same, with nine hits by CSI and three by CEU. Game three was a little better for Eastern Utah, hitting six while Southern Idaho hit 12.
In game one, Eastern Utah’s Colston Robinson and Tyler Jones both had hits. CSI’s Jared Arehart, Jeff Vickers, Ken Fugerland and Sean Pitts each had one run and one hit, with one RBI each for Vickers, Pitts, Josh McFarland and Hector Martinez. Errors on Friday were made by CSI’s Fugerland and Kyle Resser and by CEU’s Robinson, Danny Cornia and two by Jones.
CEU’s Zac Dinkins pitched four innings and was replaced in the fifth after two hits, three walks, a strikeout and a balk. Riley Gordon came on the mound and was relieved in the last inning after four runs, six hits, a walk and three errors. Bryan Smith finished the game for CEU, allowing one hit.
Todd Privett pitched four innings for CSI with three strikeouts and was replaced by Karl Mejlholm, who allowed two hits, a walk and six strikeouts. Arin Formanek finished the last two outs of the last inning with one walk.
In game two, CSI had six runs, two by Vickers and one each by Arehart, Fugerland, Jones and Cody Howerton. Vickers had three hits and two RBIs. Howerton had two hits and one RBI. Howerton had one RBI, but no runs or hits. Southern Idaho had one error for the game by Fugerland.
CEU had one run, by Brett Nigbur, batted in by Mitch Ramsdell, who had no runs or hits. CEU had hits by Nigbur, Preston Hansen and One Taumoepeau and errors by Robinson, Cornia, Jones and Kyle Graham.
Graham pitched four innings with four runs, five hits and two walks. Chris Donoghue pitched one inning with two runs, two hits and two errors before Crosby Oldham finished the game with two hits and a walk, but allowed no runs and struck out two batters.
Game three saw runs by CEU’s Taumoepeau and Jones with RBIs by Cornia and Adam Hutchinson. Taumoepeau and Jones each had one hit and Nigbur and Colton Ray had two hits each.
CSI had runs by Eric Cattoni, Vickers and Howerton, with two each, and Fugerland, McFarland, Brady Bartholomew and Martinez, each with one. The team had seven RBIs, two each by Cattoni, Vickers, and Bartholomew and one by Howerton.
CEU’s Kollin Killian had five runs, five hits, five errors and a walk before being replaced in the second inning by Hanson Perkins. Perkins had three runs, three hits, three walks and three errors when Jeremy Lambson came to the mound. Lambson allowed two runs and four hits, with two errors and two walks, and two strikeouts. Levi Watts pitched the last inning, allowing no runs or hits, and striking out two.
CSI’s Andrew Shrive struck out four batters as he walked two, allowed one run and four hits and had one error. Sean Loglisci added one strikeout, allowed one run and two hits and walked one batter.
CEU’s team is still fifth in the conference with four wins, 15 losses in the conference and five wins, 26 losses overall. The Eagles face first-ranked Southern Nevada this weekend at home, with double-headers on both Friday and Saturday.
