A view of Scofield Reservoir from the dam last week still shows a cold and snowy scene, although over the weekend the ice along the edges started to get thin in some places. A drive through Scofield and over Huntington Canyon doesn’t reveal record amounts of snow piled up along the road, but the snow pack is in better shape than in many recent years. According to officials a big key this year is the fact that the ground was well saturated with moisture last fall before the snow fell on it. Unlike the past few years, that means there will be a good runoff rather than the snow melt just sinking into the ground.
