Militant Labor Forum – SALT OF THE EARTH is a film based on the 1950 strike by zinc miners in Silver City, NM. Mexican immigrant workers struck to get wages equal to other miners and to be treated with dignity by the bosses. SALT OF THE EARTH was blacklisted during the 1950s during the height of McCarthyism, making it the only film to be blacklisted in U.S. film history. FGP volunteers serve 15 hours per week in local schools, receive a daily meal, a yearly physical, accident and liability insurance while on duty, and mileage reimbursement to and from the school. Alzheimer’s – Memory Loss – The Price area has been developing a C.A.R.E. Program with the Alzheimer’s Association. The program needs caregivers who could use a break from the constant chores of taking care of a family member with memory loss. The program also needs volunteers to help provide companion services while the caregiver gets a much needed break for 1-3 hours. Volunteers will be reimbursed for mileage. The C.A.R.E. program for the Alzheimer’s Association of Utah is in the Price R.S.V.P. office which is located in the Carbon County Senior Citizens building, 30 East 200 South in Price. Helper City Community Development Committee – All interested parties are invited to attend the Community Development Committee Meeting of Helper City every Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the meeting room at the Helper Civic Auditorium or in the Library in the Auditorium. Casa Volunteers Needed – Each year hundreds of children in Carbon and Emery counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Frontier Project – A local Family Support Group, Frontier Family F.U.T.U.R.E.S. meets every third Thursday in Carbon County. This is an organized parent education and support group. Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. Pinnacle Canyon 6th Annual Mardi Gras – “Sports Mania”, the 6th Annual Mardi Gras fundraiser for Pinnacle Canyon Academy will be held on March 12 from 6:00 p.m. to midnight at the Notre Dame School Building, 217 N. 600 E. in Price.
