East Carbon’s Donna Turner goes up for a shot against Green River’s Heidi Vetere during a game at the Viking gym on Tuesday night.

It was a chance for East Carbon to redeem themselves, finally before the home crowd after a tough two losses in the preseason.
Unfortunately, the snowy evening left nothing but more white stuff on the ground in East Carbon as the team came up empty for victories in a game which featured a good Green River offense that scored 56 points against only 29 for the Lady Vikings.
Actually the tale of the game could be told in the first quarter as the Lady Pirates from down Highway 6 took off and never looked back. They outscored the home girls 16-4.
In the second period they kept up the pressure putting up 21 points as they stole the ball time after time, all but shutting down East Carbon’s scoring. The Lady Vikings only managed 9 points.
The break in the game at halftime was a good respite for all involved, but it didn’t change the direction of things. The third period became more of a disaster than the first two for East Carbon as they were outscored 13-2.
In the fourth period the Green River coaches substituted freely and the East Carbon players responded with a strong quarter outscoring the Lady Pirates, 14-6, But it wasn’t enough to make up for three weak perids that went before it.
East Carbon was led in scoring by Samantha Madrid with 17 points, the teams only player with more than 4 points in the contest.
The Lady Pirates were led by Ciji Vetere, a 5’5″ point guard who had 18 points.
Neither team has played a league game yet. East Carbon will play Altamont at home on Dec. 14 and face their first league opponent in Wendover on Dec. 16.
