Autumn Fest Art Exhibit – The John Wesley Powell River History Museum Art Gallery, 885 East Main, Green River, is hosting the Autumn Fest Art Exhibit with works by prominent Utah artists. The exhibit runs from September 27 through December 31, 2004.
Second Annual Grizwald Holiday Lighting Contest- Price City residents within city limits are eligible for judging which will take place the week of December 13, 2004. Workout For Your Health – Carbon Rec offers low impact aerobic, weight and many other fitness techniques classes from Monday through Thursday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. $2.00 per class or passes available. Volunteers Needed – Rocky Mountain Hospice and Faith in Action Volunteer program is looking for caring volunteers who would like to work with elderly people who do not qualify for Home Health or Hospice care but could use companionship, someone to call to see and check that they are all right, someone to run the errands they can no longer do. Volunteers will try to help these people live as independently as possible in their own homes. Studio Open House – Sculpter Karen Templeton will be hosting a studio open house on December 10 and 11 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at her studio, 148 So. Main Street in Helper. Wine and cheese will be served and all are welcome.

Sub For Santa Pool Tournament – On December 18 at 7:00 p.m. the Sub for Santa Annual Broomstick Pool Tournament will be held at the Hideaway. Come on out and support the children and have a good time. Rules: bring a standard broom with sweeper, $10 entry fee, 60% goes to Sub for Santa, remaining 40% split between first, second and third place. Plaques awarded.
Art Exhibit – at Museum of the San Rafael, 64 North 100 East in Castle Dale. The museum will be hosting Joseph S. Venus art exhibit, prehistoric, wildlife and western art of Utah from September to December 2004.
C.A.R.E. Program – The Price area has been developing a C.A.R.E. Program with the Alzheimer’s Association. The program needs caregivers who could use a break from the constant chores of taking care of a family member with memory loss. The program also needs volunteers to help provide companion services while the caregiver gets a much needed break for 1-3 hours. Volunteers will be reimbursed for mileage. The C.A.R.E. program for the Alzheimer’s Association of Utah is in the Price R.S.V.P. office which is located in the Carbon County Senior Citizens building, 30 East 200 South in Price. Helper City Community Development Committee – All interested parties are invited to attend the Community Development Committee Meeting of Helper City every Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the meeting room at the Helper Civic Auditorium or in the Library in the Auditorium. This committee has been formed by Volunteers to acquire a new Helper City Community Pool.
Free Legal Clinic – In cooperation with the Seventh District Court, Utah Legal Services is holding a Free Legal Clinic on the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Seventh District Courthouse located at 149 East 100 South in Price. The clinic is from 11 am until 2 pm and you may call 800-622-1563 to set up an appointment or just show up and we will fit you in. Bring your questions and all the documents that you have pertaining to your case.

Casa Volunteers Needed – Each year hundreds of children in Carbon and Emery counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Frontier Project – A local Family Support Group, Frontier Family F.U.T.U.R.E.S. meets every third Thursday in Carbon County. This is an organized parent education and support group. Anyone interested is invited to participate. Meetings begin at 7:00 at the Castle Valley Center, 755 North Cedar Hills Dr. in Price. Childcare and refreshments are available. Foster Grandparents – Volunteers of America-Utah needs grandparents to join the Foster Grandparent Program team. Foster Grandparents receive a modest non-taxable stipend of about $200 per month. Individuals who are at least 60 years old; love children; have a limited income, and extra time to share may qualify. FGP volunteers serve 20 hours per week in local schools, and receive a daily meal, a yearly physical, accident and liability insurance while on duty, and transportation to and from the school. Carbon County Animal Services – Residents are encouraged to bring recycled newspapers and aluminum to the office at 3360 S. 225 West, Price. Donations will be used for homeless pets.

Parenting for Teens – The Family Support and Children’s Justice Center in Price offers a free class dealing with the issues, problems and difficulties facing teen parents. Women’s Bible Study Group – Interdenominational, interactive. Mondays 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the lower fellowship hall of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Bring in one can of food = one fine, so get all your fines taken care of. The food will be donated to the local food bank. Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. VFW Field Service Officer Visit – On Dec. 16 a Field Service Officer from the VFW Department Service Office in Salt Lake City will be visiting Price to assist you in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits, preparing and documenting application for compensation, pension, hospitalization and other benefits. This is a free service and veterans need not be members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States to qualify for assistance. The officer will be working out of the Price Workforce Services Center from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Please bring the following documents so that we may better serve you: DD form 214, marriage/divorce papers, birth/adoption/death certificates, children’s social security numbers.
