A combination of United States Bureau of Land Management personnel and employees from various fire agencies institute a number of ‘black line’ fires north and east of the Carbon County Airport. The fires were set last Friday and Saturday to form approximately 30-foot barriers between standing timber and dried out dead wood. The majority of the dried out dead timber was chained down during the 1960s In spring 2005, larger prescribed burns will be conducted in the same locations to take out the dead wood in the areas the black lines have defined, according to BLM officials. Some of the operations may be taking place periodically during the next few weeks.
