Letter to the Editor: be a Good Neighbor

I thought the war was over.
After service during the second World War I thought people were more united and were alot closer to each other. They worked together on various issues and life was rolling along. Religion, politics and most everything was a joint commitment of all.
Now I can see where we are going back to one person and one rule, believing that our own opinions are the only one that counts. We want one opinion, one ruler, one party to control everything.
It amazes me that the people who do have control over events like the legislature, do not allow other opinions to come forth.
We were always of the opinion that we can’t be wrong all of the time. We may not like what we hear sometimes, but it doesn’t hurt to listen and learn.
I’ve seen young children come up with an opinon or remark that would floor you. You wonder where they get them. Television and schools have changed much of how people grow up compared to past generations.
Politics and religion are two topics I’ve been told to discuss but when it’s out of control leave it alone. By keeping your opinion to yourself and by listening you may find out you’re wrong or perhaps not. But your not changing someones opinon arguing about it..
If you’ve raised your children properly and taught them to study the issues you don’t have a worry. Just pray your teaching and morals have taken hold.
I’ve heard the statement lately that our county commission is not doing anything good for the county and should be removed. I wish to bring a few things to mind on this subject.
Carbon County has not been a county to get alot of business from outside the area. The people here are good or better workers than in a lot of places. We can’t build too much here because of the lack of water. It’s the one thing that doesn’t allow too much growth. It’s been a major problem for 60 to 70 years.
There may be a lot of people don’t realize that we were going to lose alot of water and land to Sanpete County. I have sat in meetings, had visits with various groups and individuals who are afraid we were going to come out of the dispute between the two counties as losers. We still may, but I hope not. Our commissioners and especially Mr. Milovich have put alot of work into our senior citizens buildings, management of the low income housing, roads, mining and the gas drilling in the area.
Check the papers and see the work that our commissioners, mayors and other public officials are doing. It’s easy to judge someone without walking in their shoes and following them around.
Don’t sell anyone short, your own children, neighbors or friends, because it has taken everyone to make this nation great. It’s as divided now as I’ve never seen and it’s mostly our own fault. Divide and it can be conquered from within.
Be a good neighbor and friend when discussing an issue. Maybe hand shakes, hugs and even kisses at times should be part of it, because remember what you make of this life good feelings go with you.
