Emergency personnel assist at the scene of an early morning traffic accident Saturday on U.S. Highway 6. The single-vehicle crash claimed the life of a young woman from Wellington.
The July 31 accident occurred on the divided highway near Pinnacle Canyon Academy at 6:02 a.m. Cassie Higginbotham, age 21, died when the Chevrolet Blazer she was driving toward Price reportedly rolled in the median. No passengers were traveling inside the SUV with the victim.
The accident spread debris down the divider for a long distance. It appeared to investigators at the scene that the vehicle had gone off the right side of the road a considerable distance from where the rollover happened. When the vehicle drifted off the road, the driver apparently over corrected and went into the median.
When law enforcement authorities arrived at the scene, the officers reportedly found Higginbotham trapped inside the vehicle. The Blazer had come to rest on its top and the victim had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Price City Fire Department.
Higginbotham was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Utah Highway Patrol has not determined what caused the fatal crash. But investigators suspect the driver may have fallen asleep or was distracted when the accident occurred.
The victim was purportedly not wearing safety restraints at the time of the crash.
