Primitive Pottery Workshop – The Colorado Plateau Field Institute is offering this workshop July 16-18 at Millsite State Park. Participants will learn the basic difference and similarities and construction of primitive pottery, tour museum exhibits, collect and prepare raw materials used to construct primitive pottery and will have the opportunity to construct a usable piece of pottery using primitive techniques. Block C on Wood Hill – The Carbon Class of 1954 is planning it’s 50th Class Reunion on August 21. Is there anyone out there who has the pride and equipment to paint the Block “C” or “Cs” on Wood Hill? Mayor Joe Piccolo has said the City will pay for the paint, but does not have the needed equipment to accomplish the task. It would, certainly, improve the looks of Wood Hill and would mean a lot to many people, local residents and out of town visitors, let alone reflect the pride we have in our community.

Summer Lunch Program – Carbon School District will serve summer lunch beginning Tuesday, June 1 and ending Friday, July 30. Meals are served at East Carbon High School, Wellington Elementary, Castle Valley Center and Sally Mauro Elementary between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. These meals are served free to anyone 18 years old and younger. Yard Sale – Carbon County Drug Coalition is having a fundraiser to help Carbon County become a drug free community. If you would like to help us, donate items for our yard sale such as: clothing, furniture, household items, toys, etc. Please drop off items at Department of Child and Family Services, 475 Price River Dr., Suite 152 downstairs of Workforce Services. Yard sale will be held July 15 & 16 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Cedar Hills Drive behind Smith’s Food and Drug. All proceeds will be be donated to the Drug Coalition. Educational Opportunity Center – CEU has a new Educational Opportunity Center serving Carbon and Emery Counties. The program is designed to assist adults who would like to start into a college of their choice as well as assist students with a variety of services including financial aid application, college course selection and completing their GED if needed. The service is free and targets low income and first generation students. If you would like to start college in the fall, now is the time to get started. Summer Literacy Workshop Program – Volunteer Connections is hosting its 5th annual Workshop Program in conjunction with Price City Library sponsored by United Way. Helper City Community Development Committee – All interested parties are invited to attend the Community Development Committee Meeting of Helper City every 2nd and 4th Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in the meeting room at the Helper Civic Auditorium. This committee has been formed by Volunteers to support community development in Helper City and to work on ideas for the new Helper City Community Pool Project.
Free Legal Clinic – In cooperation with the Seventh District Court, Utah Legal Services is holding a Free Legal Clinic on the fourth Monday of each month at the Seventh District Courthouse located at 149 East 100 South in Price. Early Head Start Summer Fun Pageant – July 16, registration is $10 per child and you must be registered by June 24 from 8:00-10:00am, and 3:00-6:00pm at Early Headstart Building, 745 E. 200 S. in Price. The pageant is for ages pre-natal to 12, age categories as follows: birth-36 mos., 3-5 years, 6-8 years, 9-12 years. Events for ages birth-18 mos. include cutest hair, prettiest eyes, biggest smiles and cutest giggle. Events for ages 19 mos.-12 years include beach wear, Sunday’s best, talent (2 min. max), cutest PJs. There is also going to be a prize for cutest pregnant belly: be creative and do whatever to your belly. Casa Volunteers Needed – Each year hundreds of children in Carbon and Emery counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Foster Grandparents – Volunteers of America-Utah needs grandparents to join the Foster Grandparent Program team. Foster Grandparents receive a modest non-taxable stipend of about $200 per month. Individuals who are at least 60 years old; love children; have a limited income, and extra time to share may qualify. FGP volunteers serve 20 hours per week in local schools, and receive a daily meal, a yearly physical, accident and liability insurance while on duty, and transportation to and from the school.
