Dinos clinch Region 8 title in five-inning barrage on Pioneers

Dinos Mike Smith, Adam Martinez and Troy Grundy have led the Carbon bull pen this season with their strength and consistency on the mound.

The Dinos have secured first place in Region 8 with two games still remaining in the region season, proving yet again that Carbon County grows em’ for baseball.
Carbon’s 16-3 victory over Lehi on April 23 extended the team’s win streak to 12 games and improved the Dinos to 6-0 in region play.
Nineteen Carbon hits, four of which were contributed by senior lead-off Julian Montoya, ended any Lehi hopes of breaking the streak.
The game ended in the fifth inning due to the 10-run rule.
Allowing only five hits, senior Mike Smith earned the win with Troy Grundy closing.
Smith and Grundy also assisted the team with their bats. Smith had a home run for the Dinos and Grundy added a pair of doubles.
As Region 8 champions, Carbon will host the opening round of the tournament at the Carbon High field on May 8.
The Dinos will host their last regular season home game of the year on April 27 against North Sanpete.
In the last meeting between the two teams, Carbon combined for 13 hits to defeat the Hawks 17-7.
Game time is 3:30 p.m.
Carbon will then travel to Delta on April 29 to close the regular season.
