The College of Eastern Utah’s Lady Eagles faced Dixie College’s Lady Rebels last weekend for the teams’ second series this season.
Back in November, poor shooting led to two Lady Eagle losses at Dixie.
The losses broke CEU’s perfect 7-0 season and knocked the Lady Eagles from their 10th place ranking in the National Junior College Athletic Association division one polls.
“They played two of their best games, we played two of our worst games and got beat,” commented head coach Dave Paur.
According to Paur, the team has always struggled with Dixie College.
On Friday and Saturday night, however, CEU was eager to defend their home court.
With less than 10 minutes remaining in Friday night’s game, the Lady Eagles went on a 10-0 run to overcome Dixie’s 62-54 lead and go on to a 80-70 win.
An improved shooting percentage in the second half made the difference for CEU in the final minutes.
In the first half, the Lady Eagles were 10-36 from the field for 27 percent.
In the second half, CEU was 18 for 36.
Ten out of 11 CEU players contributed points and four Lady Eagles hit double figures.
Chelsey Warburton led the team with 16 points, many coming during the late-game comeback.
Cassie Warburton and Melissa Disch added 12 and Lindsey Arnoldus finished with 11.
Paur said the team’s depth was a big factor in the win and that it is often difficult to discern between starters and those coming off the bench.
“With our first and second team, you see no difference,” Paur noted. “That’s great.”
CEU also committed 17 turnovers compared to the Lady Rebels’ 32.

A late Dixie run was not enough to overtake the scoring of the Warburton sister’s, who combined for 36.
Veva Whitear contributed 14 and Chelsey Jackson tacked on 10 in the 97-84 win.
Dixie drops to 8-8 with the losses. CEU remains in second place in the conference with a 12-4 record.
The mens and womens teams travel to North Idaho College this weekend.
