Dual games draw crowd to Carbon High gynasiums

Bryan Stewart tracks a Uintah guard who tries to run down the clock during the tight game. The Dinos lost to the Utes by five, 49-54.

As the showcase game of the night, the Carbon High’s boys team did not disappoint.
On Tuesday night, the Dinos were host to two visiting schools for non-region basketball, with the Lady Dinos playing Cottonwood while the boys challenged Uintah.
Balancing the overflow of two sophomore, two junior varsity and two varsity games required the use of the Dino’s practice gym for the younger teams.
As a result, fans enjoyed a varsity double-feature in Carbon’s main gym.
The Lady Dinos hit the floor first with an eager Cottonwood team.
The Lady Colts outscored the Lady Dinos 32-24 in the first half, hitting five three-pointers to take the early lead.
However, 17 points from Morgan Warburton, coupled with 16 points from Brittany Pollastro and Andraya Newby and 11 from Tabby Cummins ended Cottonwood’s hopes of a win on the road.
Carbon took the win, 70-62.
In the boys game, Carbon and Uintah battled for an advantage the entire game but neither team ever gained a substantial lead over the other during the matchup.
Entering the fourth quarter, Uintah lead 44-42.
The two teams traded baskets for the majority of the quarter until back-to-back Uintah scores gave the Utes a two score advantage.
Uintah ran out the clock and won, 54-49.
Bryan Stewart, Zach Henseler and Chase Julian all had 11 points for the Dinos. Senior Brandon Manzanares added nine points.
The loss drops Carbon to 3-8 on the season.
Carbon will travel to Colorado this weekend while the Lady Dinos take a weekend break.
Region eight play will begin next week for both teams against Emery High.
The ladies play Jan. 15 followed by the boys game on Jan. 16. Both games begin at 7 p.m.
