Fred Regis
KENILWORTH – Fred A. Regis, passed quietly in his sleep on Sept. 7, 2003.
He was born Dec. 9, 1938 in Kenilworth, to Larry Regis Sr. and Vera Callor Regis.
He was a graduate of Carbon High School, College of Eastern Utah and held a B.S. degree in education from Brigham Young University. For several years he taught at East Carbon High School in Dragerton. He resided in Salt Lake City prior to moving to California. For the past 20 years he has been active in the gaming industry in California. He retired as general manager from Lake Elsinore Resort and Casino in Lake Elsinore, Calif. in 2000.
He was proceeded in death by both mother and father. He is survived by brothers and their families, Larry and Robin Regis of Lake Elsinore, Calif., and Richard and Sherrie Regis of Price; daughters, Julie Meine of Solon, Ohio; and Jill Clark of Salt Lake City.
He will be sorely missed by his extended family including all his many close and cherished friends.
After his cremation, a memorial celebration of life was held Sunday, Sept. 14, in Lake Elsinore, Calif.
Jim Sherman
HUNTINGTON – James “Jim” Clark Sherman, age 79, passed away Sept. 13, 2003 in Price.
Born April 6, 1924 in Huntington, to Eugene and Ardella Larsen Sherman. Married Rela May Oliver Oct. 29, 1945 in Las Vegas, Nev.
Jim was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Longtime resident of Salt Lake and Huntington where he retired from Savage Brother’s Trucking in Salt Lake City with many years of dedications of service. He loved camping and fishing.
Survived by wife, Rela May Sherman, Huntington; son, James C. (Susan) Sherman Jr., West Valley City; daughter, Judy M. (James) Edwards, St. George; and brother, Wilford (Vi) Sherman, Hayburn, Idaho. Preceded in death by parents; two sisters, Doris Machovsky, Virginia Howard; six brothers, Dan, Ben, Max, Robert, Charles and Ray.
Memorial service Saturday, Sept. 20, 2 p.m., Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 720 North Cedar Hills Drive, Price, under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
Raymond Borgeson
WELLINGTON – Raymond Lester Borgeson, age 89, passed away Friday, Sept. 12, 2003 of black lung and emphysema in Grand Junction, Colo.
He was born May 21, 1914 to John Borgeson, a Swedish immigrant and Bertha Adelle Weaver Borgeson in Lancaster, Atchinson, Kans. He was one of seven children. Both of his parents and all of his siblings preceded him in death. Raymond married Dorothy Charline Daniels Dec. 28, 1941 in Manila. They were married 52 years. Dorothy passed away July 1, 1993. They had two daughters.
Raymond started working when he was 13 years old as a day laborer for neighbors. He also did some trapping and sold the first to fur traders. He later went to barber college. At that time a hair cut cost 25 cents and a shave for 15 cents. His work on the railroad took him to Wyoming where he got his first job in the coal mines. He mined in Wyoming, Colorado and Utah. He worked with his father-in-law, Charles C. Daniels. He retired from Kaiser Steel in Sunnyside in 1976. Raymond had a great laugh and sense of humor. He was lots of fun to play cards with, he could grow anything in a garden, flowerbed or any houseplant, could built or fix anything. He sang silly songs and recited poetry until the time of his death. We never knew if he made up the words or if he had actually heard them somewhere. He will be missed, because as he would say “Everybody loved Raymond”.

Heimback, Salem, Ore.; five grandchildren, Valerie Jean Parrish, Grand Junction, Colo.; VaLynn Jorgensen, Palisade, Colo.; Sterling D. Blackburn, deceased Aug. 1979; Lorie Lynn Baker and Bobbie Jean Bryant, Salem, Ore.; five great-grandchildren, Amber Rae Ellis, Ashleigh Jean Ellis, Hannah Lynn Griggs, Zachary Sterling Griggs, Grand Junction, Colo.; Morgan RaeJean Bryant-Baker, Salem, Ore. and one great-great-grandson, Ryan Daniel Ellis, Grand Junction, Colo.
Funeral service Wednesday, Sept. 17, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Wednesday one hour prior to services. Friends are welcome at Mitchell’s Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
Steven Rowley
HUNTINGTON-Steven Kevin Rowley, age 46, died Sept. 13, 2003 in Huntington. He was born Feb. 7, 1957 in Price the son of William Kevin and Sharleen Fox Rowley. He married Lavarde Caldwell Mar. 4, 1993. She preceded him in death.
Steven had a great love for the mountains. He loved hunting and fishing. He had a time share condo in Preogo Springs, Colo. He loved to spend a weeks vacation every summer there. He was a coal miner at Deer Creek Mine for 27 years. After many years of constant pain and suffering, many trials, he has been released to the arms of his Heavenly Father.
Steven is survived by mother Sharleen Fox Rowley of Huntington; aunt Elaine Huntington of Salt Lake; aunt Annette Anderton of Kaysville. Also his stepchildren Curtis and Carla Caldwell, and granddaughter, Jessica Caldwell. He is also survived by many cousins who loved him. He was preceded in death by his father, Kevin Rowley; grandparents Bill and Nettie Rowley, Alison and Grace Fox; and uncle and friend Dick Fox.
Friends may call at the Huntington LDS Stake Center on Thur. Sept. 18 from 10-11 a.m. Funeral Services will follow at the Stake Center at 11:00 a.m. Interment, Huntington City Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary, Castle Dale.
Gudney Anderson
CLEVELAND – A wonderful mother is no longer in pain. Gudney Svava Johnson Anderson, age 89, passed away on Sept. 11, 2003.
Svava was born Nov. 24, 1913 in Cleveland to Jonena Friedsemd Agresmdottir Johnson and Halldor Johnson. She married Kenneth D. Anderson on Jan. 11, 1936 in Price and their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple April 24, 1964.
Svava was a loving mother to Shirnena (Sherry), Kenneth Bert (Buddy), Rodger Kit and Larry Kurt and a loving grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mom was fluent in both English and Icelandic history and customs. She liked to travel and made two trips to Iceland to visit relatives and to work on genealogy. She was able to trace the one side back to Leif Erikson. She remained very close to the relatives in Iceland. She loved people and was great at building new relationships. Mom was involved in many crafts and created wonderful items. She was an avid quilter and created quilts of exceptional beauty for family and friends. She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She is survived by children, Sherry (George) Davis of Jamul, Calif.; Kit Anderson of Cleveland; Larry Kurt Anderson of Jamul, Calif.; and sister-in-law, Adonna Johnson of Bicknell. Also nine grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by husband, Kenneth; son, “Buddy”; one brother, Englebert Johnson, Bicknell; and one sister, Laufay Johnson Clark of Jamul, Calif. Mom, eg elskhugi y.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 17, 11 a.m., at the Cleveland LDS Chapel. A viewing will be held Tuesday, Sept. 16, 7 to 9 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Price and also one hour prior to services at the church. Burial, Cleveland City Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Arthur Cox Jr.
PRICE – Arthur Ludene Cox Jr., age 80, passed away Sept. 13, 2003 at his home in Price.
He was born June 25, 1923 in Clawson, to Arthur Ludene Cox Sr. and Theo Hitchcock Cox. He married Irma Greenaulgh, had three children and later divorced. He then married Nina Croft Dixon Dec. 8, 1952 in Denver.
Art worked as a truck driver and farmer in Oklahoma until his retirement at which time he and Nina moved to Price. He was a man who loved to work with his hands, caring for his livestock and making things in his shop.
He is survived by wife, Nina, of Price; two children, Richard Cox of Texas; and Jolynn Taylor of California; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Also survived by brother, Merrill of Spanish Fork. Preceded in death by daughter, Loraine; three sisters and one brother.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2 p.m., in the Ferron Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Marion Konakis
SUNNYSIDE/GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Marion F. Konakis of Grand Junction, Colo., passed away at his home on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003 at the age of 67.
Marion was born Dec. 23, 1935 at Sunnyside to Fotis M. and Ellen Belaros Konakis. He married Helen Kontas. She passed away April 6, 1988. He married Thelma Jean Weaver July 13, 1991.
He spent his childhood and attended schools in Carbon County and he served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. Marion retired as a brakeman and conductor from D&RGW Railroad in 1993. In addition to the railroad, he had worked on the family ranch sheep herding and as a coal miner in Carbon County. His hobbies included gardening, travel, hunting and taking trips to Las Vegas. The greatest love of his life were his grandchildren.
Survivors included his wife, Thelma of Clifton, Colo.; son, John M. Konakis of Grand Junction, Colo.; two stepsons, Wayne Holding of Fruita, Colo.; David Weaver of Denver, Colo.; two daughters, Elaine K. Miller (Daryl) of Denver, Colo.; Mariann Konakis (Keith Williams) of Denver, Colo.; stepdaughters, Verna Stapleton of Grand Junction, Colo.; brothers, Stan Konakis of Elko, Nev.; five sisters, Bessie Markos of Ogden; Christine Cuatto of Salt Lake City; Olga Halamandaris of Savena Park, Md.; Georgia Hohlios of Clearfield; and Athena Kontas of Price; four grandchildren, James Kenney, Ty Konakis, Daryn Miller and Darius Miller. He was preceded in death by parents, two brothers and one sister.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, Sept. 17, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. A second visitation will be held in Price at Mitchell Funeral Home on Thursday, 9 a.m. to noon with a graveside service at 1 p.m on Thursday at Price City Cemetery.

Helen Madison
FERRON – Helen Madison passed away Sept. 6, 2003 at Castleview Hospital.
She was born June 6, 1942 in Lily, Pa. to Julia and Ernest Salina. Married Mark Madison June of 1980 in Huntington.
She enjoyed sewing, painting ceramics and actively saving stray animals, especially cats. Member of the Catholic Church.
Survived by husband, of Ferron; brother, Arthur Salina, Arizona; sister, Rose Shea, Pennsylvania; and a special niece, Robin Davis of Pennsylvania.
Private family services were held after cremation in Pennsylvania.
