Javier Arevalo works to complete roof improvements at Sally Mauro Elementary School in Helper.
Last summer, construction crews made several repairs to the school building. However, a strong hail storm hit the Helper area, causing damage to roofs in the area of the city and major leaks developed at the school during the winter months.
Therefore, a complete reconstruction of the roof is taking place to repair the damage and resolve the problems.
According to school officials, major roofing construction will be completed by the time children fill the classrooms on Aug. 21.
Crews will continue to work on the minor roof repairs after school is in session. But the classes will not be interrupted.
