Although school is not in session, Carbon County sports teams are gearing up for their upcoming seasons which kicks off later this month.
Tryouts are scheduled to take place throughout the next several weeks and all interested athletes are encouraged to attend.
The Carbon High football team will begin mandatory practice August 11 on the high school field. According to coach Jeff Jorgensen, no athlete will be turned away and are guaranteed a spot on this year’s roster.
“I don’t like the term tryouts. As far as I’m concerened, if an athlete comes out and works hard and does what they are required, I don’t have a problem with them being on the team,” explained the coach.
Students entering ninth grade through 12th grade are encouraged to come out and begin practice starting this Monday.
Carbon High ladies volleyball tryouts will also take place beginning August 11 at 9 a.m. Any interested athletes are encouraged to attend.
Interested high school athletes who want to compete on the Carbon golf team are encouraged to participate in tryouts. Athletes may contact coach, Tony Pinedo at 637-4980 for more information.
East Carbon High School sports are also gearing up for the upcoming season. Tryouts have already began, but those interested in competing in baseball or volleyball are encouraged to contact Ryan Hepworth for more information.
Finally, seventh through ninth grade students at Mont Harmon Junior High are encouraged to attend football tryouts next week on the junior high field.
Beginning August 11 at 7 a.m., tryouts will begin. Any interested athletes who need further information may contact Joe Meanea at 613-7324.
As soon as the class bell rings later this month, fall sports will begin throughout the county.
In the meantime, interested athletes are reminded to participate in tryouts in order to compete in this year’s exciting sports season.
