Winners Announced in WAAIME Essay Theme Contest

Pinnacle Canyon Academy essay winners Hollie Grange, Katelyn Johnson, Kaijsa Sailing and Yvette Parish stand with their teacher Mr. Martinez and WAAIME representative, Cindi Butler.

The Women’s Auxiliary to the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum Engineers recently conducted their annual national essay contest. The topic this year was minerals in my home.
Each winner received a cash prize and their names will be published in the national essay book.
Student from across Carbon County participated in the contest and each classroom who submitted essays received earth science materials and the teachers received money to be used to purchase learning material. The donataions were given by the local WAAIME Utah Coal Section.
This year the local section has donated over $7,000 in scholarships, teacher workshops and earth science materials to schools in the Carbon and Emery county areas.
