Emergency personnel assist at the scene of a single vehicle traffic accident last Wednesday afternoon on Fairgrounds Road.
Seven people incurred injuries in connection with the July 16 mishap.
The accident reportedly occurred when a vehicle driven by Joshua Martinez, 24 of Price, left the roadway about a quarter mile east of the softball diamonds, then rolled two and one-half times down an embankment.
‘It appears the vehicle was traveling to fast for the conditions,’ indicated Carbon County Sheriff James Cordova. ‘He failed to negotiate the curve.’
Traveling with Martinez were his wife, 25-year-old Tanya, and five children, ranging in age from 1 to 7 years old.
Several passengers, including children, along with a small dog were purportedly thrown from the rolling vehicle.
‘It was just pure luck no one died,’ noted Cordova. ‘Not one person in the car was strapped in.’
According to Cordova, neither alcohol nor drugs apparently contributed to the accident.
Martinez was cited for traveling too fast for existing conditions and child safety restraint violations.
