The annual Western Boys Baseball Association all-star tournament concluded the first week of play last Friday afternoon.
Teams from Carbon and Emery counties will now compete in the final week of action with the top four teams in each division advancing to the championship tourney bracket.
During games played July 9, the Green River major team hosted and defeated Price National Red, 16-7.
Sunnyside traveled to Price that same day and was handed a loss by the Northern Heights Gray major team by the final, 10-0.
The only minor league game played last Wednesday took place on the Price National field and pitted Northern Heights against Sunnyside. The Northern Heights team claimed the victory by the final, 14-5.
Thursday’s action heated up as the Northern Heights Black team defeated Price National Red, 16-7 in major league action.
Also competing in the major league that day was Helper and Price National White. In the end, the Price team defeated Helper, 15-3.
The July 10 minor league game pitted Price National against Helper. Once again, the Price team claimed the win by the final, 10-2.
Wrapping up the first week of round robin style tournament play was the Helper major team who defeated Green River by one run. The final for Friday’s game was 4-3.
Also in major league action, the Price National White team defeated Northern Heights Gray by the final score of 14-6.
In minor league action, Helper defeated Green River 10-7 and the Price National team handed Northern Heights a 9-6 loss.
This week’s action is expected to be strong as the all-star teams battle for a chance to compete in the Region M final tournament to take place beginning this weekend and stretching through the end of the month.
Both major and minor league games will take place on the Price National field with the winner of the major league tourney moving on to compete in the little world series of WBBA baseball in Roosevelt beginning August 5.
Competition will continue throughout the week with games taking place in Price, Helper and Green River. Game times are at 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. each afternoon.
