Local karate students traveled to Salt Lake City on May 3 to compete in the 33rd annual Utah Open Karate Championship.
The students were introduced at the event by Sensei Mike Martinez and each athlete performed well.
The following karate participants placed at the event:
Cheylee Montgomery, age 11, brown belt placed second in kata, second in sparring; Brett Morgan, age 16, brown belt finished in second place in kata and second sparring; Megan Dayley, age 9, green belt placed second in kata and second in sparring; Sharon Moosman, age 10, green belt placed third in kata and first in sparring; Alexis Gagon, age 9, blue belt finished in second place in kata and first in sparring;Brayson Hurdsman, age 6, blue belt placed first in kata and first in sparring; Breanna Hurdsman, age 9, blue belt placed third in kata and third in sparring; Dondra Nance, age 34, white belt finished in first place in kata and second place in sparring; Brianna Scoville, age 15, white belt placed second in kata and third in sparring; Stacy Villa, age 13, white belt finished in second place in kata and third in sparring; Cameron Wachter, age 11, white belt placed third in kata and third in sparring; Talmage Nielsen, age 11, white belt finished in third place in kata and third place in sparring; Thomas Nielsen, age 9, white belt placed fourth in kata and second in sparring; Samuel Nielsen, age 5, white belt finished in second place in kata and second place in sparring; Kim Hackwell, age 34, white belt placed second in kata and third in sparring.
