| As the track and field season continues, the Carbon athletes get stronger. |
The season is going well for the Carbon High track and field team who continues to improve while chalking up victory after victory.
On March 19, Carbon competed at Delta with six other teams. According to assistant track coach, Stewart Foster, the boys looked strong in most events.
Daniel Colonna got things started for the Dinos by placing fifth in the long jump competition.
In the shot put event, Perry Laulu had his best distance so far this season with a throw of 44 feet, nine and one half inches. This distance captured Laulu a second place finish.
Laulu also competed strong in the discus event where he placed third.
In the middle distance, Issac Goodrich captured a first place victory in the 3200 meters and third in the 1600 meter run.
Scott Terry placed second in the 3200 meter event and fourth in the 1600 meters. Terry also caputured the first place finish in the 800 meter run.
Jacob Burrows captured the fourth place finish in the 800 meter event.
Lee Prettyman competed in the javelin competition and finished in fourth place.
The girls also had a successful meet as several of the athletes finished in the top 10.
Andraya Newby placed second in the 200 meter run to get things started for the girls.
Amie Stewart finished in fourth place in the low hurdles and sixth in the high hurdle event.
In the 3200 meter run, Brittany Horrocks finished in fourth place.
Finally, Maquette Potts captured the high jump victory and placed second in the girls long jump competition.
Following the Delta meet, the Dinos returned to action, March 25 as they traveled to Lehi to compete against six other teams.
Melanie Madsen placed second in the 3200 meter run while teammate, Ashley Rowley finished in second place in the 1600 meters.
Stewart ran strong and placed fourth in the 300 meter hurdle event.
Jana Burrows finished in fifth place in the girls 800 meter run and was followed by Horrocks in sixth place.
Newby placed third in the 200 meter run for the Dinos.
Jessica Serfustini and Potts placed third and fourth in the girls high jump.
Goodrich and Terry are still running in first and second place in the 3200 meter run.
In the 800 meter event, Terry was edged out at the finish line and placed second by hundredths of a second.
Joe Palmer finished fourth and was followed by Burrows in sixth place.
In the sprints, Tyson Hackwell placed fifth in the 100 meter run while Jacob Perez finished in fifth place in the 200 meter run.
Bryan Stewart finished in second place in the 300 meter hurdles and third in the 110 high hurdle event.
Goodrich decided to run in the 400 meter event just for fun and finished strong with a second place finish.
In the boys shot put competition, Laulu finished in second place and fifth place in the discus event.
In the javelin event, Prettyman finished in second place and he also finished in third place in the discus competition.
Prettyman was followed by teammate Mike Terry in fourth place.
The next meet is scheduled to take place at Timpview High, April 3-4.
This event will be a state qualifying meet and will allow the Carbon athletes to continue to land themselves a spot on the state finals roster.
