Gloria Fryer of Price ran the Olympic torch in St. George on Tuesday morning. She ran it by Dixie High School and was the second runner of the day. Fryer, a five year resident of Carbon County, was nominated by her son, Sam Zozaya. Fryer, who worked in California for years as a dispatcher in public safety sent out an e-mail asking service men and women who wished to have their names carried with her on a scroll during the running of torch to submit them to her. She had 39 names which she planned on carrying in her other hand while she ran, but Olympic officials told her she could not carry it with her. Instead she stuffed it in her sock and carried it that way. She came to Price to live after retiring from law enforcement after visiting relatives in Florida, Salt Lake and a brother in the local area. “I liked it here. This is where I stuck after all the visits,” she says.
