The Carbon High Lady Dinos, who are currently ranked fourth in the 3A high school division, hosted their main rivals, the Emery High Spartans Tuesday night for an all out battle. The Dinos succeeded in defeating the Spartans 67-40. The victory boosted the Dinos to 16-2 overall for the season.
Once again, the Warburton sisters were on fire. The sisters managed to boost Carbon’s spirits and helped to lead the team down the road to victory.
Chelsey Warburton lead the team in scoring with 21 points, while sister Cassie lead the team in rebounds with 12, while scoring nine points. Not to be outdone, Morgan also finished with seven points against the Spartans.
Although the Warburtons tend to run the floor for Carbon, teammates Stephanie Cox, Lauren Reaveley, and Brittany Pollastro also contribute quite nicely and frequently to the winning Dino team.
In the Tuesday night show down, Cox scored seven points, Pollastro 11, and Reaveley finished with four points.
The game was intense, however the Spartans struggled to gain control of the game against the powerful Dino team. Although many Emery fans were in attendance supporting their favorite team, the Spartans just could not put the Dinos down, just like so many other teams before.
The dynamic Carbon team seems to be unstoppable as the team heads for the regional playoffs which begin Feb. 22 at Carbon High. These playoffs determine which teams advance to the state championships held in St. George Feb. 28 through March 2. The Dinos plan to be there representing Carbon High with honor and pride.
At the rate that the Dinos are playing, the team has a good chance at capturing the state title this year. The Dinos plan on reaching this point one game at a time, and they will begin doing so beginning Feb. 7 on the road against North Sanpete. The Dinos hope to continue their winning ways while winning hearts along the way.
