Snow blankets the valley for the first holiday season in several years. While there have not been many big storms, the higher areas have received significant amounts, but not enough to still bring the area up to average. According to the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the total in test areas registers at 84 percent. Seeley Creek is at 92 percent, Buckhorn Flat is at 94 percent, Red Pine is at 78 percent, Mammoth-Cottonwood Canyon is at 86 percent and White River is at 71 percent. Water levels are high, with 90 percent of average precipitation at measured stations. While the totals reflect near to average snowfall, significant precipitation in the next few months will be needed to break the drought that has had a stranglehold for the last four years.
