Golden Rule Mission – Volunteers will launch the 2002 holiday bell-ringing campaign Nov. 27 at various businesses throughout the area. Donations will not only support the homeless, but serve as a contribution for the installation of a security system and a new telephone system at the mission in Helper.
Christmas for foster care youth – The division of child and family services in Price is accepting new toy and monetary donations to provide a Christmas party for youth in foster care during the holiday season. For information, contact the office at 636-2360.
Rape crisis hotline – Rape or domestic violence victims in the Carbon-Emery area may contact the local 24-hour crisis line toll-free at 1-866-894-8610.
Grazing workshop – The informative session for ranchers is slated Dec. 13 at Red Cliffs Lodge near Moab. An optional follow-up discussion is scheduled Dec. 18 from 8 a.m. until noon. Flu vaccinations – Clinic hours at the health district in Price are Monday through Friday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Food handlers classes – Two-hour sessions are scheduled at the public health department in Price on Dec. 12 at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Classes will be taught at the health district in Castle Dale on Nov. 21 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Test fees required. HEAT program – Applicants for the federally funded energy assistance program must have identification, Social Security cards for all household members 18 years of age or older, copies of utility bills and proof of preceding month’s income for all employed people in the home. The program closes March 31. For appointments, contact the program at 613-0100.
Active Re-Entry drivers – The center needs volunteer drivers to transport people with disabilities to appointments, school and work on an as needed basis. Drivers are reimbursed for mileage. Contact Active Re-Entry at 637-4950.
BLM Christmas tree permits – may be purchased at the Price field office until Dec. 23. One permit per household. For fee and cutting area information, contact the BLM office at 636-3600.
Price/Ferron ranger district Christmas tree tags – are being sold on a first come, first serve basis at the Price office. One permit per family. For information, contact the office at 637-2817.
Parenting for teens – The Family Support and Children’s Justice Center in Price offers a free class dealing with the issues, problems and difficulties facing teen parents. Participants learn about available resources, assistance to help youth return/remain in school, parenting/life skills, cooking and recreation opportunities. CASA – Court appointed special advocates are trained community volunteers appointed by judges to speak for children appearing in court. Screenings are conducted on all volunteers. For information, call CASA coordinator Tarasina Compagni at 636-3431.
Frontier project – works to empower local families. The program needs youth mentors. For information, contact the project at 637-1497.
Carbon County Triad – meets the first Wednesday of the month at 2 p.m. at Price senior center. Members focus on law enforcement and aging programs to assist the elderly. Meetings are open to the public.
Carbon County RSVP – Volunteers ages 55 year and older are needed. Mileage reimbursement and liability insurance provided. For information, contact the RSVP office at 637-9118.
Lifeline pregnancy assistance, support center – The facility offers free confidential pregnancy testing, verification, counseling and baby supplies. Residents may contact the center by calling the 24-hour telephone line at 636-0700.
Cans for Care-A-Van – The service is conducting an aluminum can drive to help defray the costs of providing transportation to medical appointments for the elderly and people with disabilities. Bagged cans may be dropped off at Howa’s. For pickup, call the office at 637-9488.
Carbon County Humane Society – The non-profit organization offers monthly spay and neuter clinics at 98 North Carbon Avenue in Price. The group needs old towels and blankets. Members will pick up good used items for the group’s rummage sale. For information, call the humane society at 637-2908.
Carbon County Animal Shelter – AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Carbon County Housing Authority – The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The children’s library is open to housing residents Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m.
Foster parents – The local DCFS office needs foster parents willing to work with teens and provide emergency shelter care. For information, contact Cindy Saccomanno at 636-0219.

Price library – Hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.; closed Sunday. Story hour is Wednesday at 5 p.m. and Thursday at 1 p.m. Children Pet Pals activities are Tuesday from 5 to 5:30 p.m. Santa will visit children at the library Dec. 11 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The Scholastic book fair will be Dec. 4 to Dec. 11. The library is sponsoring a food drive for the local pantry through Jan. 11, 2003. One can of donated food satisfies one fine. The library will reopen Dec. 5. CEU library -Hours are Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday from noon to 6 p.m.; Sunday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Hours vary on holidays and during breaks. Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. Helper mining museum – From Oct. 1 to April 30, hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. From May 1 to Sept. 30, hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tours may be scheduled. For information, contact Helen Tonc at 472-3009.

Cancer screening – Southeastern Utah Health District in Price offers checks twice a month for women up to and including age 64. Clinics include breast, pelvic and pap exams at low or no cost. Women 50 to 64 may qualify for free mammogram vouchers. Call the health department at 637-3671 to schedule appointments.
Infant immunization clinics – The health district in Price offers the clinics Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
ABC Learning Center – has books, computers and activities for adults and children. Hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For tutoring appointments, call the center at 888-2061.
