The volleyball season is over for the Carbon High Dinos, but the memories are frozen in time.
Once again, the Dinos found themselves playing for the state 3A championships against last years champion, the Morgan Trojans. It was a conclusion to a well played season which resembled in many ways, last years grand finale.
This year, the Dinos were more prepared for the final game. It wasn’t a surprise to the team who had been in the final game the year before.
It was an exciting feeling for the girls who worked so hard to be back in the spotlight again.
The final outcome of the season was identical to last year. The Dinos settled for the second place trophy. Quite outstanding for a school who has had a history of less than perfect volleyball seasons. Looks like things have changed for this ball club.
This year, several of the Dino athletes turned the heads of volleyball critics throughout the state.
In fact, five of the Dinos starters were named to all-state teams for their roll in Carbon’s exciting season.
Dino senior, Chelsey Warburton wrapped up her final year with Carbon by earning herself a spot on the Salt Lake Tribune’s all-state first team. Warburton was also voted to the Utah coach’s all-star team.
Brittany Pollastro was also named to the all-state first team. In only two years with the Dinos, Pollastro has proven that she has the strength it takes to carry this team to the state finals.
The Deseret News also selected Dino stars to its all-state roster. This year’s first team roster included Morgan Warburton. The Dino sophomore has played two years with the team after moving over from ninth grade to compete last season. With two more years to go, the youngest Warburton looks forward to having the chance to play for the state title once again. Warburton is also determined to capture that title and bring it home to Carbon High.
Danielle Julian was selected to the all-state second team as well as the coaches all-star list. This year was a successful one for the Dino senior who kept the team’s spirits up both on and off the court.
Finally, Janelle Bruno was voted to the coach’s all-star team. Bruno completed her final season at Carbon High with honor as she also maintained a high grade point average and was named to the Utah High School Athletic Association’s academic all-state team.
This year’s Dino volleyball team was lined with talented players. Even though many of the players were not named to all-state teams, that doesn’t mean that they were not stars in the eyes of Carbon fans.
