On Sept. 19 the Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands rescinded the tough fire restrictions that have been in place every since May 1. The recent wet weather the state and the much lower temperatures have reduced the threat of wildfire. However, the division stresses that people still need to be careful with open fires. This fire season was the worst since 1996 when more than a half million acres burned in Utah. In some parts of the state the it is still dry and wildfires are possible. Rudy Sandoval, the local state fire warden, reminds people that even though the ban has been lifted, permits for open burning, like in the photo above, are still required through Oct. 31.
