Rape crisis hotline – Rape or domestic violence victims in the Carbon-Emery County area may contact the local 24-hour crisis line toll-free at 1-866-894-8610.
Livestock hay website – USDA had developed an Internet website for producers who need/have livestock hay or grazing available. The site, located at www.fsa.usda.gov, has a link titled FSA HayNet.
County history publication – Residents may purchase the Carbon County Historical Society’s spring publication at the museums in Price and Helper.
CASA – Court appointed special advocates are trained community volunteers appointed by judges to speak for children appearing in court. Screenings are conducted on all volunteers. For information, call CASA coordinator Tarasina Compagni at 636-3431.
Frontier project – works to empower local families. The program needs youth mentors. For information, contact the project at 637-1497.
Carbon County Triad – meets the first Wednesday of the month at 2 p.m. at Price senior center. Members focus on law enforcement and aging programs to assist the elderly.
Carbon County RSVP – Volunteers ages 55 year and older are needed. Mileage reimbursement and liability insurance provided. For information, contact the RSVP office at 637-9118.
Lifeline pregnancy assistance, support center – The facility offers free confidential pregnancy testing, verification, counseling and baby supplies. Residents may contact the center by calling the 24-hour telephone line at 636-0700.
Cans for Care-A-Van – The service is conducting an aluminum can drive to help defray the costs of providing transportation to medical appointments for the elderly and people with disabilities. Bagged cans may be dropped off at Howa’s. For pickup, call the office at 637-9488.
Carbon County Humane Society – The non-profit organization offers monthly spay and neuter clinics at 98 North Carbon Avenue in Price. The group needs old towels and blankets. Members will pick up good used items for the group’s rummage sale. For information, call the humane society at 637-2908.
Carbon County Animal Shelter- AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Carbon County Housing Authority – The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The children’s library is open to housing residents Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m.
Foster parents – The local DCFS office needs foster parents willing to work with teens and provide emergency shelter care. For information, contact Cindy Saccomanno at 636-0219.

Single mothers support group – meets Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Price Community Center. Child care available upon request. No fees required.
Helper library – Hours are Monday through Wednesday from noon until 8 p.m.; Thursday from noon to 6 p.m.; Friday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.; closed Saturday and Sunday. For information, contact the library at 472-5601.
Price library – Hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; closed Saturday and Sunday. Story hour is Wednesday at 5 p.m. and Thursday at 1 p.m. Children Pet Pals activities are Tuesday from 2 to 2:30 p.m. For information, call library at 636-3188.
CEU library -Hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The library is accepting Carbon High yearbook donations for its archives. Missing years are 1928, 1933, 1939, 1955, 1961, 1966. For information, contact the library at 613-5209.
Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. Child Care Resource & Referral – offers information on becoming child care providers and referrals for parents, employees or employers needing related services. For information, contact the agency at 613-5619.
Women’s cancer support group – meets the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at Castleview’s classroom Located in room 104, the cancer library is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. For information, contact Sherry King at 637-4800, extension 3510.
Helper mining museum – From May 1 to Sept. 30, hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. From Oct. 1 to April 30, hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tours may be scheduled. For information, contact Helen Tonc at 472-3009.
Prehistoric museum – From April 1 to Oct. 31, hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. From Nov. 1 to March 31, hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. For information, call the museum at 613-5060.
Habitat for Humanity – For information about volunteering or applying for homes, call the Habitat office at 636-3230 between 8 a.m. and noon.
Cancer screening – Southeastern Utah Health District in Price offers checks twice a month for women up to and including age 64. Clinics include breast, pelvic and pap exams at low or no cost. Women 50 to 64 may qualify for free mammogram vouchers. Call the health department at 637-3671 to schedule appointments.
Infant immunization clinics – The health district in Price offers the clinics Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
ABC Learning Center – has books, computers and activities for adults and children. Hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For tutoring appointments, call the center at 888-2061.
Social Security – Located at the county courthouse in Price, the office is open the second Wednesday of the month from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., excluding a half-hour lunch. For information, residents may call Social Security toll-free at 1-800-772-1213.
Single mothers – Bringing Hope Foundation meets are Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Price Community Center. Single mothers share experiences and learn about community resources. No fees required. Participants must enroll by contacting the foundation at 637-5542.
Caregivers support group – meets the last Wednesday of the month at 3:30 p.m. at in room 140 at Active Re-Entry in Price. For information, contact Lisa Perla at 637-4950.

Schools
Home school exchange – The free admission, free set-up exchange is planned Aug. 20 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the business and technical center on Carbon Avenue in Price. Set-up time is 1 p.m. Use door and Utah Highway 10 side.
Castle Valley Center accepting wheelchairs, walkers – The center will write donation receipts for tax record for residents providing used wheelchairs, walkers, etc., to assist students in the Carbon-Emery area. Donated equipment may be dropped off at the center, 755 N. Cedar Hills Drive, Price.

Castle Valley Community Theatre auditions – CVCT will conduct auditions for the group’s fall production of “Arsenic and Old Lace” on Aug. 20 and Aug. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Mont Harmon theatre. There are roles for men and women ages 18 or older.
Play readings – Coal Country Players will sponsor play readings at the Geary Theatre throughout the summer. The readings are open to local residents, with no pressure of casting or performing. For information, call Neil Warren at 637-3389.

Inspired by the Ancients – Mark Vranesh’s mixed media works inspired by rock art sites and landscapes in the state will be displayed until Aug. 26 at CEU Prehistoric Museum.
