Local baseball players capture awards

While competing in the triple crown qualifier tournament in Orem on June 21-22, Price resident Adam Martinez and Carbon County native Austin Bingham were awarded the most valuable player awards. Bingham was voted the offensive most valuable player after with an overall batting average of .769 in the two day tournament. Bingham also was credited with the game winning RBI in the championship game, leading his Utah County Stixx team to a 6-5 victory and a tournament championship. Martinez was voted defensive most valuable player after throwing a one hitter in a tight game during the tournament. Martinez also retired 17 batters with only one walk. By winning the tournament championship, both athletes will travel to Steamboat Springs, Colo. later this month to compete in the triple crown world series.
