Rape crisis hotline – Rape or domestic violence victims in the Carbon-Emery County area may contact the local 24-hour crisis line toll-free at 1-866-894-8610.
Food handlers classes – Two hour sessions are slated July 17 and Aug. 14 at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the health district in Price. Classes will be taught July 18 and Aug. 15 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the health department in Castle Dale. Test fees required. Call Claron Bjork at 637-3671.
County history publication – Residents may purchase Carbon County Historical Society’s spring publication at the museums in Price and Helper.
CASA – Court appointed special advocates are trained community volunteers appointed by judges to speak for children appearing in court. Screenings are conducted on all volunteers. For information, call CASA coordinator Tarasina Compagni at 636-3431.
Frontier project – is looking for clean, used clothing for families and children in need. To donate, contact the project at 637-1497.
Carbon County Triad – meets the first Wednesday of the month at 2 p.m. at Price senior center. Members focus on law enforcement and aging programs to assist the elderly. Meetings are open to the public.
Carbon County RSVP – Volunteers ages 55 year and older are needed. Mileage reimbursement and liability insurance provided. For information, contact the RSVP office at 637-9118.
Lifeline pregnancy assistance, support center – The facility offers free confidential pregnancy testing, verification, counseling and baby supplies. Residents may contact the center by calling the 24-hour telephone line at 636-0700.
Cans for Care-A-Van – The service is conducting an aluminum can drive to help defray the costs of providing transportation to medical appointments for the elderly and people with disabilities. Bagged cans may be dropped off at Howa’s. For pickup, call the office at 637-9488.
Carbon County Animal Shelter- AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Foster parents – The local DCFS office needs foster parents willing to work with teens and provide emergency shelter care. For information, contact Cindy Saccomanno at 636-0219.

Helper library – Hours are Monday through Wednesday from noon until 8 p.m.; Thursday from noon to 6 p.m.; Friday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.; closed Saturday and Sunday. For information, call the library at 472-5601.
Price library – Hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; closed Saturday and Sunday. The library is sponsoring free summer reading programs for preschool to third grade students and fourth to ninth graders. Story hour is Wednesday at 5 p.m. and Thursday at 1 p.m. Children Pet Pals activities are Tuesday from 2 to 2:30 p.m. For information, call library at 636-3188.

Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. Helper mining museum – From May 1 to Sept. 30, hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. From Oct. 1 to April 30, hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tours may be scheduled. For information, contact Helen Tonc at 472-3009.
Prehistoric museum – From April 1 to Oct. 31, hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. From Nov. 1 to March 31, hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. For information, call the museum at 613-5060.
Habitat for Humanity – The group’s work day is slated June 22 at 9 a.m. at the subdivision located at 315 orange Court in Castle Dale. Bring shovels and gloves. Volunteers and donations are welcome. Cancer screening – Southeastern Utah Health District in Price offers checks twice a month for women up to and including age 64. Clinics include breast, pelvic and pap exams at low or no cost. Women 50 to 64 may qualify for free mammogram vouchers. Call the health department at 637-3671 to schedule appointments.
Infant immunization clinics – The health district in Price offers the clinics Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
ABC Learning Center – has books, computers and activities for adults and children. Hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For tutoring appointments, call the center at 888-2061.
Social Security – Located at the county courthouse in Price, the office is manned by representatives the second Wednesday of the month from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., excluding a half-hour lunch.
Single mothers – Bringing Hope Foundation meets are Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Price Community Center. Single mothers share experiences and learn about community resources. No fees required. Participants must enroll by contacting the foundation at 637-5542.
Caregivers support group – meets the fourth Wednesday of the month at 3:30 p.m. at in room 140 at 375 S. Carbon Avenue, Price. For information, contact Lisa Perla at 637-4950.

Carbon High 2002 graduates – Diplomas may be picked up at the main office. The high school will not mail diplomas.
Castle Valley Center accepting wheelchairs, walkers – The center will write donation receipts for tax record for residents providing used wheelchairs, walkers, etc., to assist students in the Carbon and Emery area. Events
Price Culture Connection – A free performance is set June 20 at 7:30 p.m. at Price Peace Garden, featuring the musical stylings of Randy and Roberta. The event calendar is being assembled. Performers are encouraged to schedule dates. For information, contact Price city.
Carbon fair rodeo activities – The queen and king contest is slated June 22 at the county fairgrounds. Preregistration is required. Applications may be picked up and returned to Barbara West in Carbonville or at IFA in Price. Residents interested in being grand entry flag carriers may contact West at 637-7819.
Wellington rodeo queen contest – is scheduled June 27 at 6 p.m. at Wellington arena. Age groups are 8 years or younger, 9 to 13 and 14 or older. Royalty will include a queen, two attendants and two princesses in the younger groups. For information, call Jana Abrams at 637-0881.
Play readings – Coal Country Players plans to sponsor play readings at the Geary Theatre throughout the summer. The readings are open to local residents, with no pressure of casting or performing. For information, contact Neil Warren at 637-3389.
Pleasant Valley Days – The independence Day celebration is planned July 5 and July 6 at Scofield. Friday’s activities include music, crafters, food and entertainment in the park. Saturday’s schedule includes breakfast at the park pavilion; parade line up, 10:30 a.m.; parade, 11 a.m.; Price Kiwanis Duck Float; music and crafters at the park; and fireworks from the island at dusk, approximately 10:15 p.m.
Community Daze – Sunnyside and East Carbon City will host the event July 13. Activities start with breakfast in the Sunnyside Park from 7 to 10 a.m., followed by the parade. Games, horseshoes and entertainment are planned all day. Carbon Recreation will have kiddy rides and the giant climbing wall for participants to enjoy. Bill Buckley & the Rocky Mountain Dance Machine will emcee events at the park from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and at the dance at East Carbon pavilion from 9:30 p.m. until midnight. Rodeo performances are slated Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. at Sunnyside arena. For parade entries, contact Karee Hunt. Call Sunnyside Credit Union for booth rentals. Entertainers may contact David Avery and Bo Huff will provide information on the car show.
